People who are turning up on the Friday, what sort of time are you likely to be arriving? At the moment I think I'm likely to be there about 6ish, I've got a couple of snake deliveries to make on route so this may vary a little. Also I've realised that SPD pedal and shoe combo probably isn't the best, I've got some normal pedals and toe cages but does anybody have a spare set of toe straps that I could borrow for the weekend? Stotie, I'll be there from 6 ish on the Friday I think. If I am delayed then I can pm you the code to get through the gate. Stella has a pair of straps coming from London with her for me- Therefore I will have a spare pair of straps for you if she doesn't forget

After my last two forays into the wild I'm sure anything you come up with will be a breeze, a link to the proposed routes may help to envisage the type of hills encountered.

Thanks for replies. I was never too worried about the route for the likes of Stoatie and Whippet (except maybe it's too flat?) Here's the GPSies graphs

Looks OK. I routinely take some of 'the girls' on a 18km ride that has about the same variation in elevation and they cope alright.
I have booked my train tickets, so if all goes according to plan I get to R-o-D back of 1000h.
It had better not rain, as I can't be bothered putting the mudguards back on.

It had better not rain, as I can't be bothered putting the mudguards back on. That's exactly what I was thinking! I have been assuming it will be just like last year's trmac metling weather! I through the Road Racers to the back of the bike cave a good couple of months ago. Muddy stripe up my back it is then...

To save me searching, does anyone know what 1:50000 &/or one inch OS map(s) the route is on? I have a fair collection of both scales and will bring appropriate ones if I have them. [Note: 'map' - a high-tech, ultra-low energy replacement for Garmin, with foldable organic, paper white display. ]

ps - If you are riding from Tutbury & Hatton railway station then this is the quieter, flater and nicer route (avoiding A511 huge hill with lots of fast traffic) link herean alternative, and even nicer ride, in part on Cycle Route 54 link here
Not sure how well this last one is signposted from main road but you will turn right (coming from station) and go down what looks to be short cul de sac Church Avenue, but will in fact bring you to a path that is cycle route 54.

I'm so looking forward to Saturday, but I'm fairly nervous about getting lost. Will study the map and, hopefully, my phone GPS won't let me down.

Wouldn't you know it? There seems to be a gap in the maps I have. No 128 and no 120 - the one inch equivalent. Plenty of maps of southern England and Scotland. Hint for DFR3? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I have no clue if that's steep or not. All I know is that I don't cope well with hills. If necessary I walk, simples.

Could anyone bringing bits for the bring & buy section of DFR2 bring along some M toe clips (and straps?) if you have them please?!?
Think I'll want to take the new Team KP Crisps bike on the ride if it's good to go but it has no clips. Doesn't have to be anything special for the day.
I'll bring along the 1 spare set I have but they don't fit my current Lyotard pedals and won't want to swap the ones on my Pro over.
Ta very much!

Doesn't look too bad Stella, especially the Ostrich option.

I'd like to try and get up the hills, but you need to be patient with me; and I'll be flipping tired, too. But, hey, no pain, no gain, right?

I've just compared with a few of my local rides which might be considered hilly and these have about half as much climbing at about 28 feet per mile. Should be OK, especially as it's all downhill after the pub.

Okay, bring it on!
Built the wheels for the bike today, got some other stuff and tried myself (another time) on mirror polishing. If that bike doesn't fly up the hills/inclines, then I don't know. lol

See how folk are feeling around about half way, but this is a very pretty alternative return route for the first of the above trips -it doesn't add much to the overall length. I will put the link to all of these up tomorrow and people can download the data for their gadgets etc.
