Cheers, Pete. My son did those last night and just grabbed the vintage posters off the web and replicated the fonts etc. He's pretty good at all this kind of stuff though and could have a go at an art deco style poster from scratch with a Lambert/Viscount in it. I'm not sure what kind of original image of a Viscount is the best for him to use to do it. I'll speak to him now.

That's the joy of having a computer savy young person about the place. They know how this stuff works. Now ask them about slide rules or log tables and it might be a different story! Can't wait to see what he comes up with.As for the bike model, the "Super Bike" or an Aerospace Pro sums up Viscount's brave attempt at the market. Cheers, Pete.

Ha Ha! Good old british public transport : ) We were recently in Berlin and Germany certainly does it a lot better.
Stella it might be worth checking out an app/website called CycleStreets. It's not perfect but is pretty good for finding routes from/to with decent breakdowns of each section. You can also select from a few levels of safety/speed/difficulty which endeavour to keep you on the cycle network, avoid busy roads, miss out tough climbs...or not depending on what you fancy.
You can also set waypoints although this can be a bit fiddly sometimes.
I must stress that I am in no way associated with the above app/site and I'm sure that others are available!

I've hear about them. Looked at Google Maps and it doesn't look very complicated to me, but that's always the case and I end up searching for an hour. Nightmare!

I have been up to see the camp site organiser tonight. Here are a few things , please note. As you pull in to the Rolleston Scout Group car park, please turn to your left and cycle/drive around to the left of the building. (the gates will be open until about 9.30pm on Friday night but I will have the codes for the barriers after that - I will give you my mobile number, signal seems pretty good there) If you are just coming for the day on Saturday then please park in the spaces I have marked on the photo; if the weather is fine then feel free to drive on to the camp site which is to the left of the building- we have numerous picnic tables, a very large awning/marquee at rear of building for our use. It is about 30 ft long on hard standing and will make a great bike maintenance place.(either to protect us from rain or blistering heat) There are about 6 electric hook up and they have spare extension leads if tent campers want to use them for re-charging etc. The ground is very level on the site. The grass was beautifully mown tonight and it looked superb. If we get good weather and you decide to stay on the day, then no problems at all. She is just keen for there to be at least 5 paying customers as that makes them break even by letting us have the whole place to ourselves. She did say if we all use facilities over and above those staying on site, then could we make a small donation to the Scout Group - which I said was more than reasonable. (eg if you are just there for the day but want a shower etc, then maybe chip in 50p or £1 or whatever you think appropriate for) All facilities as you would expect -fresh water, waste disposal, showers and indoor mens/ladies toilets. You can bbq but not directly on grass. £11 per night p/p - payment to Jane on Saturday morning or late Saturday afternoon. The reason they ask us to park in those spaces is that they have a Rummage sale at 2.00pm on the Saturday. Any questions - just pm or mail me.(no chip shop in village but one in nearby Stretton, Burton and Tutbury. 2 decent pubs nearby within 3 mins walk. and post office and convenience store 4 mins walk)

Pete, if you're still there Sunday morning, there's a car boot too! Although I have been to one before and they are very tiny. Jem

Hi all, Is anyone coming to DFR2 from Sheffield or it's environs? If so I'm hoping for a massive favour - I've just bitten the bullet & won the KP Crisps Viscount (with Viscount pump!!) that's been on Ebay awhile and trying to arrange collection is proving a little tricky. Anyone able to collect and bring it along? Pleeeaasee? ? If all else fails I may need to miss the earlier part of the rally to get it myself. Sorry for the cheeky ask - there will be a beer or two in it for anyone! L x

Thank's Scott, I'll get the location from the seller and get back to you. Description says 10mins from J35 on M1. It's also cash on collection so would have to bank transfer the money to you prior if you were ok with that? He's asked for my email to discuss it further today so will see what that brings to the table. L

Hi All,
I had a ride or two in mind for the DFR2, but could just do with a little help with something.
I don't have the ability to find/show the degree of climbs in a route. Is there an on-line thing that would allow me to plot the routes and then work out which one is the flatter of the two? Then share it with everyone -especially if they have the Gramin style thingys or iPhones etc, so they could have the GPS route if for any reason we got lost or the group split.
I don't think either rides are anywhere as 'punishing' as last year, in terms of vertical climbs. They are 17 - 19miles round trips , both with a pub at half way point that do decent-ish food.
I have also had a contingency plan that if we get rain then there is a very gentle little 7 mile round trip to a cafe.(I have no problem in the rain but realise some folks have some precious bikes that they might not want to get soaked) Also, this route could be incorporated into the longer one and those only wanting to do a short hop can peel off there?

gpsies is the one that I use most of the time, can get a bit laggy early evenings though. Or there's Stravas own version. If you need a hand working them out just give me a shout.

Cheers Stoatie - yes , just had a go and that is exactly what I had in mind. I apparently signed up for that site in 2012 but must have given up and forgotten about it, when I tried to register it reminded me.
What is a 'reasonable' or doable total climb for a round trip for a ride of this sort ? (ie mixed age and ability)
I have one route at 500 ft another at 800 ft.
The numbers don't mean anything to me out of context like that. I've ridden both (or variations of them) in the past, but would be hard pushed to say which had the most climbs.
Would it help if I post up pics of the graph or give you a link to the site with the routes on?
EDIT- Ok, looking at Kev's Garmin data from last years ride, it seems we did an 'elevation gain' of 1100ft. I must admit, it was quite hard work in the heat. Either of these rides I'm looking at for this year should be somewhat easier then.

People who are turning up on the Friday, what sort of time are you likely to be arriving? At the moment I think I'm likely to be there about 6ish, I've got a couple of snake deliveries to make on route so this may vary a little.
Also I've realised that SPD pedal and shoe combo probably isn't the best, I've got some normal pedals and toe cages but does anybody have a spare set of toe straps that I could borrow for the weekend?
