Despite doing the little tightening ring up as tight as I dare by hand, both front and rear gears seem to be overwealmed by the derailleur springs and creep forward, the rear even changes into the next smaller cog. This was a bit irritating at the last time trial and would ideally get sorted before this years campaign.
Shimano levers which are red behind the tightening ring.
Any ideas please?

I had this happen to me,not on a time trial,I add! I dismantled each gear lever and cleaned, degreased all inner parts.I then roughened up the friction discs, and Bob was my preverbial. It all depends on how contaminated the friction discs are. If it comes to the crunch, you may get away with buying some cheap friction levers off the bay and modifying the inner parts. Best of luck! Cheers, Pete.

Cheers Pete, I was wondering along those lines. I'll give it a go.

I have the same issue on my Doyle. Very annoying trying to tighten up while riding and pulling the cable to get into gear one. Its comming apart.
Just brought a long cage diraileur (sun race) to fit a 32 tooth first as I have another wheel. Still not sure if im to fit it but the gearing is not right for hills , not at my age anyway.
Looking to see if a 3 cog crank can fit, dont know much about it and do not know which one will work if any.

Raymondo, I asked for opinions a couple of days ago on fitting triple chain set to Pro type bottom brackets,I'll let you know how it goes when it stops RAINING!!! The application I have in mind will probably be limited to a 24 tooth bottom on the free wheel. Cheers, Pete. PS, I'mm in my 67th year!

Kev, I know this sounds too easy but when I saw you tightened it as much as possible "by hand"…. that's the problem. Take the screwdriver to it and go 1/4 turn at a time. I had the same thing happen on the uphill sections of my Sept triathlon and had to hold the lever down to stay in the 28 tooth gear! That was with my final hand tightening adjustment before the race and it wasn't enough. I've put several hundred miles on with the screwdriver adjustment with no problem of auto-shifting since. Hope that's all it is.
Cheers, Michael

I have the same problem on my Aerospace Sport, both levers have a tendency to creep forward unless I tighten them so much that they are hard to adjust. I just bought a second-hand pair of SunTour Powershift levers from eBay. When they arrive, and I've tried them out, I'll let you know if they are any better.

Triitout, tightened them right up and they do feel better ( though a little stiff ). Ten mile TT this afternoon so we'll see how we get on.

It really is a matter of trial and error to gets it just right. Being that it was assembled by Busaste, I've got to figure it's not the parts. How'd you do at the TT?? I've got my season opener, a super sprint tri with a pool swim in 2 weeks. It's still in the 40's (cold). Yikes. Haven't decided which bike to use yet pending conditions but the Pro is the sentimental favorite. My first race in the 60-64 age group….double yikes!

Enjoyed the TT, but I'm definitely one of the slower club members. Slightly hilly / windy 10 mile course I did 31:05 and 19.2mph average. I was pretty happy, I measured my effort well over the distance and beat someone who was faster than me last year. Came 19th out of 23. This course is said to be about 1.5 minutes slower than the faster club 10 course and on a hotter less windy evening I should go faster still. I'm hoping to dip under 29:00 minutes this season and would be really chuffed if I dipped under 28:00. My new wheels with tubs and close ratio cassette seemed to have helped to.

First impressions are favourable, although I think they will take some getting used to. In brief, pulling the levers back (against the derailleur spring tension) seems to need less force than pushing them forward. This is with the screws tightened to a point where there is no risk of the levers slipping. Danny

I cannot recall having any of this sort of trouble that couldn't quickly be cured on Viscounts using the standard Shimano no-name gruppo shifters coupled with Crane RDs and Dura Ace or Titlist FDs. My 600ex, with (surprise, surprise) 600ex Arabesque shifters, FD and RD, shifts beautifully and stays shifted - and the shifters feel amazingly light-touch. On the other hand on my Dura Ace bike with 1st gen shifters and DA FD and Crane RD, the front shifter has to be tightened as much as possible and even then has to be tweaked every few minutes to stop the FD cage rubbing in top. The Crane is fine - no problems. So it might be a case of trying different shifters until you find the one that works best with your set up?
