Hello!
I bought my Viscount new in the 70's and have loved it ever since, even though the gears were rubbish (even before I crashed it I could never get all 12 to engage and never could get it up hills - but that could be me!). After a minor crash into a wall in the early 80's there were only about 3 gears I could get it into - never the right ones either.
Sadly, I last rode it in that very cold winter in 2010, and put it away with road salt on it and only now have got it out again, but it clearly needs a TLC full service (for the first time in its life) before I take it out.
I know the front end from the back end of a bike, I know I can rub it over with scrumpled aluminium foil to clean up the corrosion a little and that's about it so I need to find someone who won't wreck it and whom I can trust to give it a good overhaul. I live in the middle of North Wales now (Denbighshire). Does anyone know how I can find someone who will be sympathetic to this bike and only do what needs to be done? I am wary of taking it into any old bike shop as I won't know if they are talking sense or not.
Thank you
(I can't upload photo's of it yet as I'm away from home for a bit but will as soon as I can)

Hi and welcome, unfortunately not familiar with cycle repair shops in Wales someone a bit closer may be able to help. Generally most bike shops should be able to fix it. Although make sure they don't try and fob you off with modern replacements.

Thank you, I remember how hard it was to get new tyres for it many years ago - when local bike shops tried to con me into £mega spend. I think I've found somewhere, which is other end of the country from me but near where my mum lives www.pembrokeshirebikes.co.uk/aftersales/renovation-restoration/Can not wait to get it up and running again :-)

Hi Ecowitch, I have been away from home for a while and hadn't taken much more than a basic tool set with me and needed to tighten the cone nuts on my wife bike (and fit a new brake cable). I took it in to a bike shop in Brecon (I can't remember the name) but it was backing on to the car park at Morrisons in the centre of town. The business seems family run and the older of the guys knew his stuff and was pretty sympathetic to the needs to an older bike. Not sure how far that is from you? If that doesn't work out - how about posting the question on the 'goods and services' section of the CTC forum? They have a lot of members who might be able to point you to a reputable repair shop I look forward to seeing pics when you get back!
