I am new to the forum. I have restored and rebuilt several classic steel bicycles and (wanting something different) I am now in the midst of a Viscount rebuild (SN 533676). I have been riding good road bikes since 1964 and well remember the Lambert and Viscount bicycles and the ads from the 1970s. I was very pleased to find that the bare frame weighs 4 Pounds 4 ounces (painted) which is an ounce lighter than my lightest 58 cm Columbus SL frame. The frame has spent its life in California so it only suffered very minor surface rust. I stripped the frame to bare metal and found the frame to be in good condition. It came with the original tapered 123mm bottom bracket. It was easy to remove with my bench press and looks to be in great condition as well. I have a 58 cm frame and plan the build as follows: • Refinish in similar to original red and white paint scheme with decals from Velocal. • A slopping crown aluminum fork (Specialized) that resembles the original death fork. • The original 123 mm tapered BB with new bearings • For the crank, either a Dura Ace 7100 (with triplizer) or Sugino Mighty triple crankset • Dura Ace 7100 front derailleur • Shimano Crane GS rear derailleur • Shimano Dura Ace center pull brakes • I will post updates as I progress. Are any of the forum members located in California?

Hi and welcome to the forum sounds like a nice build. Red and white paint scheme sounds like an Aerospace GP. Looking forward to the photos.

Sounds great to me,welcome aboard our truely international forum. It seems that most our US members are east coast/Chicago areas. I'm sure there are lots of "our" type of bikes on the west coast, probably better preserved than we have in salty old Enland.Enjoy finding them, and keep us posted please. Cheers, Pete.

From one old roadie to another - welcome! I don't recall ever being through Tehachapi, but did visit the Bakersfield area, many years ago. I'm in Chicago. That frame looks to be in excellent shape, and the red on white color scheme is a real show stopper - check the threads for some other bikes in that style. You can really build a light bike on that frame if you're into that.
You mention Velocal; do you have an idea what they charge? There are Viscount sets on eBay, and several UK sources, so I'd like to compare. have fun and good luck.

Thanks to all for the warm welcome! The frame is now in primer. I am attaching a pictures as bought and in primer. My comment on frame weight caught a bit of interest so the following is a list of frames and weights (all with the same Park scale) from my projects. Frame weights (painted): Cannondale System six (58cm carbon with aluminum rear triangle) 2lbs 11oz Cannondale 3.0 (60cm 6061 aluminum) 3lbs 08oz Trek 2000(60cm 7000 series bonded aluminum) 4lbs 2oz Viscount (58cm 4130) 4lbs 3oz
Bertoni (58cm Columbus SL) 4lbs 5oz Trek 614 (58cm Reynolds 531, Ishiwata stays) 4lbs 6oz Motobecane C5 (58cm Columbus SL) 4lbs 7oz Motobecane Team Champion (58cm Columbus SL) 4lbs 8oz Tommaso (58cm Columbus CroMor) 4lbs 11oz
As for geography; I live near Tehachapi in a community called Bear Valley Springs (www.bvsa.org/). It is a wonderful place to ride, if you avoid the steep climbs (nearly impossible). The geography, my advancing years, and a triple cardiac bypass, explain my love of triple cranksets.

I used Velocals decals on a Bertin C 37 restoration last year. The company was prompt in response to inquiries and orders and the decal quality was outstanding (according to my framebuilder/painter who fitted them).
