... or at least mildly embarrassing seat clamp. On the way home from work yesterday I had almost stopped at some traffic lights in a big queue of traffic when my foot caught the front mudguard / fender and I came down quite hard on the saddle. There was a snapping sound and the saddle became loose. On inspection I found that one of the two cross pieces that clamp down on the saddle rails had snapped. Since the saddle was still attached by one of the clamps, I gingerly re-mounted and was able to ride home (about 2.5 miles / 4km); starting out on the pavement / sidewalk and moving on to the road when I felt a bit more comfortable. I was able to hot swap another Viscount pin and saddle later yesterday evening. Coincidentally, I saw this Campagnolo seat pin on eBay yesterday. It appears to be a Gran Sport component and is engraved 'S. Marco'. No date, but it looks as though it could be the component Lambert / Viscount copied when they produced their own. And it's 26.8mm - a nice buy for people that must have a Campy component on their Viscount?

Nearly a big OUCH there John. Now a death seat clamp could lead to a horrible end to life. Was that pioneered by a Duke of Clarence? Cheers, Pete.

And if not an end to your own life, certainly an end of the ability to pass on the gift. A far cry from death in a barrel of wine, I'd think. That Campagnolo post is sweet, and much closer to you than us here across the pond. Seems you need a new post? Or just a few parts? Seat post parts 1Seat post parts 2Good riding, Frank

Lambert/Viscount; copying Campagnolo? Surely not?!! Glad you survived the attack by 'death clamp'!!! Steve

I had a seatpin incident. The original, 26.8mm Birmalux pin, the saddle in a clamp that in turn clamped the pin. I had been finding the saddle was going down at the back, and was using the 'Armstrong' method (not that one, the Borderers with big strong arms give their name to the technique) to adjust. Quick heave on the back of the saddle. But I was finding it did not answer. Stopped, had a look. Big tear, the top, narrow part of the pin was shearing at the shoulder. Completed my journey in a black cab. Seat posts at 26.8 not two a penny. Mountain bike seat posts a foot long all that was available, so sawed to length.
