Now that I've come to love a well broken in Viscount saddle for it comfort and good looks, I figured if another one pops up somewhere, I'll go for it. Last week I took a chance on a well worn beauty on ebay and actually won. What I really appreciated was getting a wonderful email from the seller, Marielle Belle, detailing how it came from her husband's much loved Pro and how it was destined for the trash heap. She really didn't expect anyone to actually want to use it or possibly even get a bid. Surprise, it attracted several bidders so the motto is, don't throw out those well worn items! What really makes this forum special is that we get to connect with people with interest and real passion for the old Viscounts. I've been lucky enough to stay in touch with some former owners from whom I've purchased from and they still get a kick out of seeing their old bike rebuilt and rolling,....or saddle in this case. There's Bill in Florida, Gary in Minneapolis, and now Marielle Belle and husband in rural Wisconsin. Frank's saddle and vtchucks fork have all found a good home. Too bad I lost touch with the fellow in colorado whom I bought the yellow Gran Touring from. I read a previous post from him where he thought the bike was "unsaleable". Ha! Hoping to see Marielle Belle and her husband's Pro posted here soon. DSCN0921 DSCN0920

Good for you. Michael, and a great story, too. Your bike looks very classic, very pristine, and likely a great around town ride. I'm looking forward to seeing the husband's Pro bike as well.

Ultimately, this site has created a sense of community amongst the scattered Viscount enthusiasts around the world. That's way cool . Kudos to its creators!

Is there some reason why quite a few Viscounts turn up in Wisconsin - or is just that it's big? There was a company - BBC, from Madison - that had a couple of Viscounts/Lamberts on eBay for ages (well over-priced in my opinion) and there was an expensive and long-standing Viscount 'Sweetheart Bike' from Wisconsin (West Bend?), with the rust spots covered with little heart-shaped stickers. This seems to have disappeared at last.
While I was at university I spent a summer (1977) working at an old folks home in West Bend, Wi, before spending a month travelling on Greyhound buses. Don't recall seeing any Viscounts, but I wasn't looking for them that summer, although a friend back in England got an Aerospace Sport about then,

Even I wouldn't be haggling at that price...

Onalaska is a long way from here or I would already be on my way there. I'd keep the V quick releases, and the wheels would get swapped if they are Viscount originals with the cartridge bearings. Can't tell from the pics, but that sure looks like the right V on the front QR.
