I have had a seemingly never ending search for a comfy saddle at a reasonable price.
Up until last year, I never had any issue with any saddle, ever - but maybe my advancing years have changed my rear and inner thighs? Either way, I was getting a sore ass/thigh after about 20 miles or so.
I tried various saddles, and various shorts, and various saddle positions. I liked the VO Tourer saddle but my son liked it more and so that's down in London on his Aerospace Pro now.
It may be too early to say for sure but I think I have a candidate for 'new favourite comfy saddle'.
I did a lot of reading and listening to people who might have the answer and came up with the Charge Spoon. It was reasonably priced and looks fine and in keeping on an older bike. For info, someone who had done a tandem ride across the United States and developed saddle soreness had recommended to me a WTB 'V' saddle - and they are a good price too. He said it was bliss, but was sceptical to begin with. I might give one of these a go on another bike I am building up.
Anyway, back to the Charge saddle. It is nice and thin at the nose, and made of a fabric that stops 'slippage' - I guess it's a man made version of suede, but not sure really. It has a great set of marks on the rails to say max/min etc and a few marks in-between to help with minor tweeks. (see photo) I imagine this is on all new saddles but for me , I'd never seen it before.
I can't remember the weight - but, it's very light.
Only did 15 miles today but it felt good and I have high hopes of it being a long time 'friend'.
The weather was just about perfect for a ride today and I plan to get out most days this week.
