Anybody here want to buy a bike for your partner/wife/GF/significant other/daughter/mum/fiance?
Great looking Tulsa down in Bucks UK- high flange hubs etc. On eBay right now but not long left on it...
I am not linked to seller in any way, it's just for info.
I don't think it's going to go for a huge amount...

It's a good-looking bike. I owned a men's Tulsa for a short while and, if this is the same, it's a Taiwanese frame, very neatly finished with lined lugs and the metal head badge, but fairly weighty. I'd buy it, but my wife and daughter like their Raleighs (!!) - a Pioneer for Mrs C and a nice Reynolds 531 Touriste for Miss C. I think that mixte frames are acceptable for both sexes and I might buy it for myself, unfortunately there is great pressure on bike space at Cusqueno Towers. Marlow is not far from me. However, it's nearing the end of a long month.
It has attracted a few bids now. Perhaps Stella is interested?

Wow, that looks great. Just the sort ofbike I was trying to talk my wife into buying last weekend. Thinking that lever gear change would be too much for her, she bought a new road bike yesterday.

Hi all,I picked up the Tulsa from Marlow yesterday. Not too bad for the money.Usual paint damage with surface rust. Steel rims, crankset and handlebars, with metal mudguards.Heavy !!!!! Anyway,on with the borrowed bike carrier and a quick clean and jerk.Oh forgot it's a mixte frame, bother.Another weight lifting bout including an inversion and it's on upside down.As all this steel is now hanging off the back of my trusty old Fiat Panda,I decided to take the scenic rote avoiding the M40 as much as possible. It was a really pleasant drive through the lanes and along an autumn tinted A40.Turned a bend and what's this,a pub and motel complex called The Lambert! It would have been rude not to,so the Tulsa did what all of my Viscounts do,and stopped in the car park. A pint of Pedigree at £3.20,not a bad price for the south, and home. Other half not sure about the bike,in truth it doesn't compare well with her Tony Oliver flat barred tourer.I know it is a shame, but a diet for the Tulsa could be on the cards.I'll keep you all informed. Cheers, Pete.

I agree, you could never drive past a pub called The Lambert... Marstons brewery is 3 minutes over fields from my house. It's a good pint but never found it travelled so well when I drank it too far out of town. Also, as I get older I find it a bit strong and can only manage a few pints of it. Although a good pint of it tends to go down like water.

The real reason I went into the pub did have to do with water. It must be an age thing!Have to admit the Pedigree traveled very well back to Avon Dassett,no complaints there. Haven't seen the ctc bit about mixte frames and bike carriers, they are a bit of a "b"! The rear wheel is not original, steel hub.The front has an alloy, large flange hub which does look to be Viscount standard issue,we'll see more when the weather improves and I can start stripping it down. There aresome pics on my flicka site, petethebike, don't have any small boys around to help uploading to this site. Cheers, Pete.

Just found you on Flickr Pete. I linked with you as a contact.(same user name as on here)
The Tulsa frame is looking a bit 'weathered'...
Your France pics on there are very interesting too!

Must put some earlier riding in France pics. Not Viscounts though, some of my Tony Oliver, and some of my old Dave Lloyd. Rode about there a bit on a Dawes tandem that lives out there.Non of our tandems have made it there yet. Our Tony Oliver tandem is an absolute joy,Campag down to the toe clips and straps, except for head set and canti brakes, can't afford the replacements at the moment!
By the by,if you know the secret of stopping bikes spontaneously going into pub car parks, don't tell me! Cheers, Pete.

Hi Pete. I've looked at your pictures of the Mixte Tulsa on Flickr. Like the men's Tulsa I once owned, the frame was made in Taiwan and it has Suntour front and rear derailleurs. The RD is the hefty steel, effective and almost indestructable 'Honor'. The front was obviously a victim in the SunTour vs Shimano silliest name game. It's 'Spirt' - not 'Spirit', despite what people might say. Shimano responded with 'Titlist'. The Spirt is also interesting in that the normal operation of a FD is reversed, so that you pull back to move into the lower gear (smaller chainring). It's believed that SunTour thought that this was easier for inexperienced cyclists to get used to, because then the rule for both RD and FD was the same - pull back to go to a lower gear. The Spirt accomplished this trick neatly by having the inner wire fixed and the outer moving - check it out!

Thanks for that very useful info, not sure whether the mechs will survive(on this frame) the future diet. they will be consigned to the bits box as come in handy gear,so could always go back on to preserve originality. Not so sure how important that would be for a bike at this level? What is original with a Viscount anyway?Whatever was to hand at the moment in the factory,it seems. On a slight tangent,I'm in the process of acquiring a trike conversion rear axle.Has this been done to a Viscount frame before? Cheers, Pete.
