For anyone being on a budget, but wanting the authentic look, check those they even come with inner tubes. I've ordered the ones without inner tubes. Not sure if it's ethical to put Raleigh tyres on Viscounts, though. Otherwise, I've got really good experience with the Schwalbe Active tyres. Also cheap, but ride very well. Got them on my Viscountess. They come out skinnier than even the Paselas, I find. Someone recently said he'd had lots of punctures on the Active ones, but I had none. Only had one on those cheap ones, got them on my blue bike. Buying new tyres to replace them, but then I rode the blue one fairly often and commuted on them since July for about 20 miles 5 times a week.

Don't worry about ethics, the tyres are probably made in the same plant in Indonesia anyway.Even Schwalbe are made there. I always used Michelin World Tours, they've now covered 12,000 miles before they get to me!Not so fussy now, just check them often and you'll be alright. Cheers, Pete.

Thanks for the tip Stell. It seems that gumwall tyres are coming back into vogue. A local bike shop specialising in track and polo bikes (all the staff have beards and masses of tatts...) a starting to put gumwalls on all their new bikes. I think they're even becoming a 'thing' in MTB circles. It's just fashion going around in its regular circles, but it might lead to more manufacturers making more and/or cheaper tyres in 27". b

Oh, Bendo, the problem is that it's mainly UK related. My friend in Germany is having a hard time to get her hands on 27 1 1/4 tyres and bike shops repeatedly tell her that she won't be able to get some. One shop had a rummage around in the basement and sold her their last pair. Sad, sad news. But luckily she's got me, so I'll supply her. HA!

Got Panaracer Paselas 27 x 1 1/8 with the puncture protection on the cheap with the Black Friday deals. Just mounted up on the porteur GP. No problem with the wire bead.

I'd probably spend just a bit more on those Schwalbe Actives rather than those Raleigh. Those Raleigh look like they might glue you to tarmac with all that tread.

I've now put on the cheap Raleigh tyres and am not too sure. But the weird feeling may well stem from the bearings and the wheel needing a bit of a re-truing.
