Mmm,yes, but,I don't think the insulating tape on the right chainstay has been there for 25 years. That could hide a multitude of problems. I wonder if the vendor would be prepared to unwrap it? Worth watching though. Cheers, Pete.

I see what you mean Pete - you spot things I don't see.
I would be willing to take a chance on it, but I'm not bidding.

Also watching, nothing like being as vague as humanly possible with the title.

Their vagueness is your gain. It's an Aerospace GP, same as the Mojave Jem. Here's your chance! At one point I put electrical tape on the chainstay of my Gran Touring so I doubt that's any kind of issue. That's the way many came new stateside. Nothing like a good mislabeled find. I'd go for it. Looks like a 22 1/2 " c-c. A better fit for you than the Viking and very original. Maybe they really don't no what they've got and just trying to clear out an "old", useless bike. Jump on it!

Michael, you are right. It is a great opportunity to own a great bike (and maybe with hindsight the Viking being a little large etc isn't a patch this, but maybe that is comparing apples to oranges).
But, it is quite a distance to fetch it (if it were local I would be very interested) and the early interest in it with a couple of bids shows me that it has been spotted by those who like a proper bike. I have my money on Raymondo swooping in like the 'Bargain Eagle' that he is and securing this one.....we will see.

It would be good have it secured by one of the boys! I'll be following the bidding. I guess it's like a tease when it's local pickup only and it's like for me, the other side of the Mississippi.

Drooling. Could the insulation tape be some kind of makeshift chain stay protector? It looks like it's not completely wrapped.

A lot of them came with the tape like chain protecter stateside. Not uncommon at all. Maybe that bike is a reverse import??? I wouldn't worry about it. Crazy as they were, I peeled off the tape to reveal an "aerospace" decal on the chain stay of my blue Gran Touring. Go figure out that placement idea! Look at the pics on my porter conversion GP and the red/white GP barn find. Same tape.

It would worry me if it were in a different place and would wrap all around, but it doesn't. My blue frame (I think) had the chain stay protection on it, but not as electrical tape, just a chain stay protection. How this bike ended up being in the UK, I have no clue; all I know is that I'm currently using it as my main commuter and I'm loving it. Muchly.

Bit of de ja vu here. Looks a good prospect. I prefer the blue to be honest. The part of north London I am from its the only colour.

That is a fair price for buyer and seller (caveat- if it is as good as it looks from where I am sat)
I guess that if the location were more central it might have gone for a bit more. I certainly would have had a bid if it was near me.
It shows that these sellers who put silly money prices on them will be waiting a long time before they sell.
I really hope someone here got it!

Yeah, I'm glad, too. I'm positive that the chain stay will be fine. Will have it delivered to work and see what needs doing. Definitely cables! Slapping on some new tyres and off I'll go shaking the cobwebs of the new darling bike.
Triitout: yep, I'll be thinking of you when I take it for its first spin.

What a great Christmas present! I can't what for the photo's Stella.
Are you going for an original look?
Was that thing slung under the back seat a thermos flask? Or is it some mythical Viscount tool/drinks holder that only get through to prototype and 5 were made for the design team? You must reveal!
By the way- is it a Brooks saddle? If so, which model?

I'll let you all know once I get my greedy little hands on that bike. I'm waiting for the seller to get back to me re organising a courier. Hope to get this baby back to my place on Sunday. Preferably riding it.
Oh, and I was also wondering what that thing on the back is. Curious.

It's a thermos flask,I used them all the time, many years ago,but the smaller, metal cased version. This was using old frame mounts. The saddle may be a Brooks, but could be a Viscount! On the subject of bottle mounts,Stella could take a leaf out of scottw's book and take the down tube, metal bottle carrier and mount it on the handle bars, using an adapter.Cheap alloy bottle, add suitable Viscount badge, and period loveliness! Enjoy the fettling. Cheers, Pete.

Cheers, Pete. According to the seller, it's a storage unit, with inner tubes in it. The bike will be with me on Friday and I'm all excited about it. So that's two new bikes in a month. I must be dreaming!
