Anyone after a bargain small / 20 inch steelie? Bloke from my club selling them and I'm sure he said £100 would be OK on the run this morning. Two bikes: Dave Russell and Battaglin with 8 and 9 speed Campag and good open pro wheels.
I'll try to out a few pics up.

Kev,they're both nice bikes. Can't you talk him into keeping on riding them in preference to modern carbon stuff. It won't last as long you know. Btb,is that the price for one ,if it's for both,I'll have 'em. Cheers, Pete.

Kev,went to Newbury today to met Geoff and see the Battaglin. What a nice chap, can't someone sell him a Viscount,I'mm sure he'd love them in time. I bought the bike, more than happy,as you said,I wouldn't be disappointed.I'm not!Looking forward to a dry day so I can give it a spin.I don't want to take it out in the rain,it's Italian,I drive an old Fiat, not that bothered about the car,but the bike? Thanks for your help in this,it was a pleasure to meet Geoff and his charming wife. After,I picked up a Viking for Jem from High Wycombe, now I've got to wangle a visit to Warwickshire so I can meet him half way.It is all about the bike!!!! Cheers, Pete.

Pete very kindly offered to pick up an impulse buy of mine from eBay - here it is below, a Viking Hosteller. Possibly going to be a bit big for me at 24", but I couldn't resist at the price it was, due to the Brooks saddle and the other nice components. Thank you very much Pete! I think if the frame is half decent and I can get it to fit me, then it could be worth spending some time and money on the frame. I love the lug work. Birmalux alloys too. falcon by Sooper 8, on Flickr

You'll enjoy it I'm sure.It will clean up nicely, and be a perfect pub bike as is.It's from the days when we used bikes as our main mode of transport. A bike for all reasons!I know I need a good booting for paraphrasing, but, what the hell. Would anyone even dream of calling a bike a "Hosteller" today? If they did I may be tempted into the 21st century. Nah,only kidding,I can remember a lot of the '60's,does it mean I wasn't there? Cheers, Pete.

Liking those upright handlebars. You'll manage to make it fit I'm sure. I'm riding up to a 24" and down to a 21" and they all work with the right stem and seatpost choices. Enjoy!

Wood blocks on the pedals? My daughter still hasn't forgiven me for them! Cheers, Pete.

Looks like the seat post is reversed so now you have real tri bike geometry with the effective steep angle seat tube. I'll probably need the setback seat post if I too go Brooks with their short rails on the Portuer. I think I should use the Viking in a race and you take the Portuer to the pub.

Yes Viking did use "v" letters on various bolts.Probably pre-dating Viscount using a different colour "v". You could use Viking bolts and only the really purists would know the difference. Cheers, Pete.

Hi all, just to return momentarily to the original topic.Don't worry,it wont take me long to deviate! I managed to find a dry slot to take my,new to me,Battaglin out for a spin.Italian steel, rain, not a good combination!Adjusted the saddle, quick check on everything and off we jolly well go.Brake for road junction, continental brake set up,front brake, left hand lever.Must remember, must remember, there are a few decent descents off the downs around here. Got back fine, must change the saddle to one of my old, well broken in leather ones.Leather over plastic with a bit of foam equals;-pile driver! Other than that,it's a super bike. Not as comfy as a Viscount, obviously. Thanks again to whippet for his help in this. Cheers, Pete
