The frame (lugs, engraved tops to the seat stays, nice top tube cable lugs) looks like the ones used on my 600ex and 400, also Foss's Biscuit. The colour looks like Linden Green (as my 600ex), but it is strange that it seems to have no decals identifying the model - not even a 'Aerospace' on the chain stay. Would be interesting to know if it had a label saying Cro-Moly tubing or whatever - this is usually at the top of the seat tube. Could have been up-graded with fairly random components - Campy &c. or, if a team bike, might have been kitted out according to a particular rider's preferences?

Could the label refer to the original bike shop selling it? Simpson's cycle shop Malden Road were founded in 1972,so could have been them. Certainly nothing to do with Tom Simpson,as he was dead long before Viscount manufacturing started. Got the makings of a nice bike for someone, will clean up well. Cheers, Pete.

Yeah I realised Tom Simpson was too early for a Viscount. Your knowledge of the Malden Road shop is spot on though - a quick Google Image search led me to the photo of an 80's version of their shop label on this blog: everygramcounts.blogspot.co.uk/2014/08/gearing-up-for-l-britannia.html?m=1Just another cobbled together/updated Viscount then I guess. It is odd that there is no trace of an original decal though.

I had to look at a map to see where Baldock was...

That's bad Jem,I can't even call you an " ignorant northerner",'cos that's me.I've known where Baldock is since they built it's by-pass in the early 1960's! Cheers, Pete.

Lewis, just had a look at your quoted website.Looks like someone has been in my garage again, the Vitus framed bike, same frame size etc! They're eligible for eroica, and are fabulous.Mine is just to big a frame,so may have to either sell it,or swap the frame for a smaller one.Especially at the moment,no room on it for my walking stick!!! Cheers, Pete.

The latest Viscount on Gumtree (Grand Sport for spares/repairs), in Bethnal Green also looks like it may have been purchased from Simpsons.

Looks like they were the area dealers at that time I wonder if any of their records still exist? One for Steve I think. Cheers, Pete.
