Some of you may remember Lewis 'The Eagle' G's spot of this Aerospace Sport in the film The Flying Scotsman? I thought the film was great and bought the book a while back. It is a very deep insight into his mind and life, highly recommended. Anyway- I found this snippet near the start of the book and thought I would share it with you. Maybe this has some bearing on the Viscount in the film? (or maybe not). In the excerpt, he is still at school and it's 1981 (I can relate to the time line as he would have been in my school year group , despite being born in 1965). He goes to a race in Girvan and gets to watch a top mechanic (Len Malvern) work on the KP Crisps team bikes. So, maybe this is the link to Viscount bikes with Graeme Obree? The innovation and futuristic ideas might have been appealing to someone with that kind of different mindset? He lists the team as Tony Doyle, Phil Bayton who are both known and then Dudley Hayton who I can't find on the lists for 1980,1981 or 1982 in KP Crisps team.

I made contact with a great guy by the name of Charlie, who works directly with Graeme Obree - he was kind enough to ask Graeme if he'd ever owned a Viscount (hence the one in the film 'the Flying Scotsman'.)..sadly the answer was 'no'. So that leaves a props person or set designer with great taste who furnishes his flat in the film.

Good work Jem - really interesting!
I've not read the book yet but it's on my list. Who knows, perhaps your questioning will prompt Mr Obree to pick up a Viscount now after all.
