I'm planning to get my frame repainted. It looks like the alternatives are Powder coating or stove enamelling. Which is better, and why?
Reading the information published by service providers (not surprisingly) supports their particular method. (For example, one respected bicycle specialist in this region provides a stove enamel service and describes it in the following terms:
"We offer traditional stove enamelling, which we believe is the best finish on a steel frame. The best balance of durability, corrosion resistance and deep colour and shine."
On the other hand, powder coaters play up the robust nature of the coating, and its lower cost.
Reading similar threads on other forums suggests a slight bias in favour of powder coating (one poster went so far as to say that stove enamelling was the best possible coat for someone who never rode their bike!).
What are your thoughts/experiences?

As I recall the original finish was a powder coat.I've seen some very well preserved Viscounts with their finish still in remarkably good condition. I've had 2 frames powder coated with excellent results. The powder fills any small surface imperfections far better than paint. It's also considerably tougher. Best of luck with your refinishing. Cheers, Pete.
