I must be mad. I've just entered an open hill climb being organised by my local club. The English national hill climb champion is competing, think it's fair to say I'll be at the other end when the results get published. Might have to lay off the pies for a few weeks, won't be doing this on my 11-16 cassette either.

Best of luck with laying off the pies.My competition career normally involves going down the hills as fast as possible.Pies are a plus point, loading up with potential energy! Which hill are you doing it on?Small chainring, large sprocket! It's the only way. Best of luck. Cheers, Pete.

Don't mention the hills!
Yes, it's me. Despite being super busy, I thought I'd pop in and say hi. Been on a shop ride today, 35 miles up and down, up and down. Was knackered before we started and felt periodically like crying. I think it's safe to say you've lost your marbles, Kev. :-)

Actually, going to semi bottle this one and do it on my Mercian. Just don't have the combination of easy AND close gear ratios on my skip tooth cassette. Campag Ergo levers will make changes easier too.

Kev,let me know the date and start time etc and I'll try and get over to give you some support. I'll just check for a decent pub close by. Cheers, Pete.

Kev,looks like ideal weather for your hill climb. Not too hot and only a slight wind. I'm going to try to get over, what time do they close the access to the carpark? Cheers, Pete.

HQ is in a pub car park about 1.5 miles away, I doubt they'll be room for spectators there. Another option would be to park at the public car park at Combe Gibbet and walk or off road cycle the mile to the hill climb along the Wayfairers Way. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Combe_GibbetWould be nice to see you Pete. First rider sets off at 10:00, I go about 10:52

Go get 'em Kevin. Good to get the heart rate elevated, just don't start too hard and blow up.

Slight problem with the walking bit Kev,had a minor mishap 3 weeks ago,so still walking with a crutch! Cycling currently not possible.I'm missing all this good weather, bikes are sulking in the garage, and I'm just a bit peeved by it all!!!! Any how,I'll give getting there my best shot.Anyone racing up that hill needs all the support they can get.I don't mean stretchers either! Best of luck,I know you'll do well, see you tomorrow(hopefully). Cheers, Pete.

Doubt our little Walbury Hill compares to Mount Washington Michael. UK hill climbs have their own charm because they are short so you're literally flat out for 6-7 minutes.
Mind you, cycling trip to the USA is intriguing.

Final picture of me qt the finishing line for your entertainment. Bloke on the left was the course record holder and left 3 minutes after me. I was pretty determined he wouldn't overtake as you can tell by my expression... Heart rate was 185 at this moment.

If you look carefully at the enlarged photo, you'll see yours truely just beneath the handlebar of the bloke on the left! Gives a feel of the atmosphere there.Well done for surviving the ride. Cheers, Pete.

Great expression, Kev, and well done! Hills and all. I think I need to tackle a few soon, just for the fun of it and to challenge myself. Says she, who hates hills.

I used to hate hills too Stella. Cured it by going up Alpe D'Huez, now know I can ride up anything.

Well done Kev! Great effort and thanks for the excellent photos. That other guy might hold the course record, but his bike is a piece of shit next to yours. b
