Triitout, I read about M. Marchand the other day. I bet his cycling history would make good reading! Cheers, Pete.

Surely Triitout's 'Yellow Jersey' status should earn him the yellow stars? I imagine 'KOTM' will be more difficult to correct.

28th is on my calendar and I'll make a day of it, had a super trip back from Lichfield last year, chatting all the way with another cyclist who had come up on the same train as me in the morning. It is a busy time cycling wise, I have an entry for Eroica Britannia, and the family is booked in to a York B&B for the Grand Depart.

Good point, we should bear in mind rail connections for those coming to the rally.
I'm in York for the Grand Depart too rmw. Staying next to the river at Acaster Malbis.

Hi Whippet,if you're camping at Acaster Malbis,it'll be the same site I stayed at for the York Rally in about 1979-80. Hauled my daughter and our camping gear back over the Pennines on our prewar tandem! Took 2 days to get to the Wirral, overnighting near Nelson. It was red hot the first day and lashed it down on the second,oh the joys of cycling in England! From what I remember it was a smashing camp site.Hope the river is where it should be. Cheers, Pete.

It's a great site Pete right on the river and next to the Ship pub. My wife's parents had a static there and she was there every weekend as a girl. We went there last year, perfect for popping into York.

National Forest YHA at Moira is not far from Chasewater and has a campsite next to it. I stayed at the YHA last year for the CTC Tricentennial Vets ride organised by Leicester and Rutland DA. Terrain fairly similar to Chasewater, some hills but not too demanding on the whole. A longer ride over from the railhead for me though - it's fifteen fairly up and down miles from Loughborough (using my scenic route), although I suppose I didn't have to visit the church at Breedon-on-the-Hill (the clue is in the name).
Endorse Stella's remarks above, it's a bike ride with friends, and last year's route was excellent, dead-ends and all!

I think I'd even sleep in a tree if needed. Just want to be there and ride with you guys.

I'm more than happy to trust in those that know the area although will certainly pipe-up if I have an issue!
Have just returned from a weeks holiday in Berlin (lots of bikes - no Viscounts) so am now looking forward to starting planning towards DFR2 and the TDF so the sooner there's a venue the better for me.
If people really are stuck for ideas of often thought one of my regular rides could make for an excellent day out with easier and harder routes and a few great pubs and very scenic. That's East (south) Devon though so hardly close to anyone!

Jem is searching at this very moment Lewis. I'd love it to be the West Country but prob not do good for those living up north.

I thought I should put this up and show it off in all it's glory! Fine work from Mrs Triitout - many thanks for this, we really appreciate it. DFR-1 by Sooper 8, on Flickr

Carsington sounds good. I know the area slightly and it is very beautiful. I loved my last YHA stay and I'd be equally chuffed if we go with rmw's National Forest YHA suggestion. Thanks everyone for putting the work into looking for options - I have been thinking a lot about DFR2, but mainly in a hyperactive "Ican'twaitIcan'twait Ican'twait!" kind of a way

Hi all, Trying to sort out a venue for the DFR2 and have a couple of venues on the short list based around camp sites. Ideally I need a rough idea of the numbers and the 'form' of camping you're thinking of. (eg motorhome, tent, etc) Can you post up asap or message me if you'd prefer.VENUE 1 is in a very picturesque village called Yoxhall. www.goldencupyoxall.co.uk/golden-cup-caravans.htmlPros - superb rides on the door step (I can safely say you'd love the roads and scenery), is attached to a pub with plenty of parking etc. A church across the road to ask absolution of sins on Sunday morning. Cons - no electric hook up for vans, and not sure if you can use pub/hotel showers (not asked that question yet) We probably need to book in advance A few minutes off A38 between Burton and Lichfield 30 miles from Birmingham 20 miles from Derby 30 miles from M1 VENUE 2 is a camp site in a village called Rolleston on Dove www.rollestonscouts.org.uk/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=55&Itemid=59Pro's - good rides a plenty. Is near a very nice pub with garden. Is cheap (but not in a nasty way), and has some parking for those not staying over. I might even be able to negotiate the Scout hall in case the weather is bad and we want to stand around and look at bikes indoors. Cons- It isn't a big site and if we don't book, I doubt we would all get in. No dogs allowed. 15 miles from M1 jn 24a 11 miles from Derby 38 miles from Birmingham
VENUE 3- Carsington www.knockerdown-inn.co.uk/caravan-camping/Pros - Beautiful part of country with great rides. Hot showers. Cons- Can't see any obvious ones, except it might need prior booking? 14 miles from Derby 52 miles from Birmingham 29 miles Sheffield 20 miles Jn 26 M1
VENUE 4- Moira YHA www.yha.org.uk/hostel/national-forestPros- Previously visited by RMW from this forum, who will also know rides in area. Cons- I don't know if it is camp site too? No motorhomes? 16 miles from Derby 27 from Birmingham 23 from leicester and less from M1 Markfield jn on M1 However- I realise a camp site isn't essential and if we just want to meet up somewhere, go for a ride , and then those camping can organise their own things based on their own needs, budget etc. That is also an option. It might be easier this way? Disclaimer. I have only picked these sites because they were recommended on here,or I have been to them. If you have another one for consideration, then get in touch.

Rolleston scout camp site for me. Good access, electric hook up, pubs and shops nearby.

If I'm not coming with John, then I'll have to stay the night. I don't have camping gear (won't buy any anytime soon either), so I need a B&B or something like that. As I previously said, I'm flexible and will go wherever you decide.
PS: I like the sound of Rolleston and Carsington, but the Moira would suit my needs perfectly if I'm staying.

I'll probably be camping with a tent, so anywhere with a patch of grass is fine for me. I checked the YHA availability online for the friday/sat and it appears that they are fully booked. You may get better luck by phoning though.

If Moira YHA if full then we might as well go back to the Scout hut. Good for camping and motorhomes as well as pubs, shops and the Scout hall. I suspect there'd be reasonable B and B in the town too.

Cheers, Jem. If it gets down to my camping, then I'll do that, too. Gee, it's been many years, hope you guys will help me getting that tent up, too. lol
Think I'll agree with Kev. No point going to Moira when they're fully booked.
NB: like what you've done to the colour scheme, Jem. A lot more pleasing on the eye.

Stella, if it comes down to camping, then when you arrive, the tent will already be pitched up for you, no worries on that front. I was inspired to change the forum colour after your logo/banner update. It seemed to require it. I went for 'Viscount Blue' this time.

I'll be there. I'm not sure if I'm camping yet, but I will definitely there for the ride. And (all of) the pub stops... Rolleston sounds good to me too, although there are no duff options in that list

Somehow seems appropriate that the Death Fork Rally should be held next to the home of British cycling Brewing.

I'm going to do a bit more on this tomorrow.
I've been in touch with Rolleston, they are open to idea of us having the site- The site isn't big, so potentially we could have the whole place. It's only £11 a night per person, but we might get a deal if we block book?
It would help if I had an idea of numbers. So, there's me (campervan) Whippit (Motorhome), Stoatie (tent)....anyone else interested? And if so, are you thinking of Fri/Sat or both?
Thanks

I still don't know. If I 'have to' camp, then I'd love to stay two night, but need to see if someone can look after the dragon in the meantime. It all depends on John and if he has space for me in the car.
