Use this thread to post up comments on the summer meet up. (which I'm shortening to a snappy DFR2 Maybe a logical start to the process is to say, is there any need or good reason to change the weekend and/or venue from last years very successful meet up? If not, then it's pretty straightforward. Let us be aware that whatever plans are made we won't be able to please all the people all of the time but by getting a date in asap we can minimise clashes with other things. We can, if needs be , set up a poll/vote thingy on here to see which date/venue gets us the biggest turn out?

Actually, that weekend wouldn't work for me as it clashed with the Yorkshire depart for the Tour de France. I'll be away from 4th to 18 July.

I'm quite flexible at the moment, but this may change as I've been invited for a job interview (bike shop). Will try to do anything I can, though, to join. Missed it last year and wouldn't want to miss it again.

Ah yes- I guess that wouldn't be a good time for it for most people for that reason. So, the question is - before or after the TdF dates? For info schools finish 22nd (ish) July if that has bearing for anybody?

I'm as flexible as it's possible to be when you're retired!!!! The Chase was a good place to start and finish. The route was a "tad hilly" in places though. May have to get a few miles (tr...ing) in,wash my mouth out with soap. The only down side is that the bikes know where the pubs are! May have to think of camping as I'm now living in Wiltshire. So it'll be ebay for camping gear. Wherever we end up,I'm looking forward to seeing you all at DFR2. Sounds like a name for a military jet! Cheers, Pete.

Me and Jem stayed in a nice caravan and camping club site nearby Pete. Cannock Chase I think it was called.

Think it makes sense to do this before schools are on holiday.
For me, 7-8 June and 28-29 June are still free.

DFR2!!!! Very Excited!!
I should be fine for any weekend with enough notice.
Le Tour would be the only thing stopping me as we are hoping to travel up to see that which could mean time off/finances get tight but with enough notice I don't see it being an issue. Just make it sunny!!

I suppose something that could work well for me would be DFR2 and TDF on consecutive weekends so that they could both be covered with a single week off work

Shall we wait a week or so to see what feedback we get here or on CTC and then try and finalise a weekend ?
The end of June is looking good though...?
Just a note to those who read this forum but don't want to join or contribute - all are welcome and the more the merrier! We are very friendly and inclusive - come along and join in. Last year was great fun and a really good day out.

Something that might figure in our calculations is the Eroica Britannia on 20-22 June in Derbyshire. The cycling is on one day but there are supposed to be cyclong related activities on the other two. I don't know if anyone is thinking of splashing out the seventy quid entrance fee and riding a Viscount in it? Might there be a possibility of linking DFR2 with the general vintage cycling jollity? Happy New Year. Hope no-one is flooded; or worse if you are suffering storms in the US.

I 'pre-registered' an interest for Eroica Britannia when it was an early bird deal at £55, but they didn't send anything back or confirm my registration. That part of the world (Bakewell, Chatsworth,Hartington etc) is great scenery and cycling. Plus, a lot of good camp sites. It also has rail links from Derby up along the Derwent Valley line. It could be time for a change of location for fear of it just feeling like a re-run of last year?

28/29th June is the closest we'll get to last year's event, taking into account the Grand Depart of the Tour de France (a section of which is part of my cycling route to work!).
Venue can be mulled over for a short while yet, but let's get a date in the diary for a start.
Event could be two days with an easy flat ride one day and a more sporty/hilly ride on another, or two separate rides on one day.
Some of the more senior and less fit riders did struggle a bit up some of the inclines, but one option in that area is to get to a point where the ride can split, and the less strong riders can return along a flat canal towpath.
Only throwing thoughts into the mix!
Safe Riding,
Sprockit

Hi all,the 21st of June is out for me I'm afraid as it's the Avon Dassett soap box derby that day. As I'm involved in the organization and usually compete,it tends to occupy me the whole week end. Any of the other dates are alright. Cheers, Pete.

28th is best for me, and I'd be travelling back home on 29th.
I think two rides ( faster and "straight to the pub" is a good idea.

Sounds good to me. Depending on fitness, and weather,I'll decide which of the 2 rides to do on the day! Cheers, Pete.

28th is fine by me, too. Depending on if John's coming alone or not, I may try to persuade him to give me a ride; if not, I'll probably stay the night, too. Gee, anyone else having butterflies just thinking of the DFR?

We should check on the availability of his "specialised tools" as well. I was more than happy for the use of his bottom bracket tool last year! No phnarring in the back now children!!! Cheers, Pete.

Yeah, it wouldn't be the same or feel right without Bustaste! And if we have to go and drag him out of his house ... he's got no choice! I want to give him a huge hug, so unless that scares him, it should motivate him. I'm a great hugger.

So, with nothing to the contrary yet, shall we give Saturday 28th June as the provisional date for DFR2 then?
