Oh just what I wanted- A very very painful torn calf this morning doing a none bike, but sport related sprint.
I'm booked in with nurse this afternoon. Meanwhile sitting with it up and ice on it. Can't straighten it, it's buggered!
Does anybody know the latest thinking on Ibuprofen and torn muscles? I heard from one doctor that due to ibuprofen making blood flow it isn't advisable to take after a muscle bruising/tear. But heard from a humber of people and nurses to take ibuprofen to prevent the swelling and inflammation.
Any thoughts?

Well, just back. Nurse sent me to Doc, now Doc is getting me in for a scan at hospital. It's torn but not sure if it's the bit that attaches to back of knee , which is worse case scenario. Hopefully it's 'just' torn muscle. I've developed a slightly less painful way of walking - it involves walking sideways like a crab. Cycling is out for at least a few weeks! I was looking forward to maybe meeting up with a few of you in mid August for a mini DFR 2.5 but looks unlikely now

and for info - the Doc. prescribed Naproxen which is like Ibuprofen but maybe a bit more of a painkiller too?

Annoying and painful.Just get better soon and try to take it easy. Now I'm sure you could stoke a tandem,in a "lady-like" manner! Cheers, Pete.

Cheers Pete, I'm taking it easy, but just have so much I want to do in the next few days/weeks. Very frustrated and annoyed with myself.
I sold my tandem about 6 years ago (Dawes Galaxy)- not really sure why, except I thought the money would come in handy.

A tandem should always be kept for the unforeseen injury.Just to p you off more, took my Frank N Stein Viscount out for a jolly today.Went to Marlborough and back using the old Swindon-Marlborough rail track.I now appreciate the pave sections of the TDF more!28ish miles in a fair bit of un-English heat.Great! We'll just have to move DFR2.5 to September, the kids will be back at school, better riding. Get fit soon. Cheers, Pete.

I'm sure you'll heal up quick. You're a young guy! Seriously, patience, ice, anti inflamatories, will hopefully limit the time off and damage. The hardest part is dealing with the inactivity so get busy on all your bike projects that have been on the back burner to keep your sanity

But it feels a bit better today and so long as I don't try and walk, I'm ok. I'm catching up on some paperwork and phone calls and will take some pleasure in doing some bike projects later this week. Researching things on the internet can while away an hour or so too.

Sounds similar ( but worse ) to the tendonitis I had on my knee last year. No cycling for about 6 weeks and the physio gave me some stretches to do. Rather than tablets, he recommended that Voltorol P stuff that you rub straight onto the site.

Kev- I do have some of that gel with aspirin in it , which i had when I pulled my groin/thigh a couple of years back. I will give that a go. Thanks

Remember not to put it on your groin this time! Cheers, Pete.

Thanks Chemists have a stronger version of Volterol ( P+ I think ). You may persuade them to give you that instead of standard. I had to tell them that my physio had recommended it. Volterol contains Ibuprofen.

Thanks for info Kev. I'm getting quite a bit of reading done and been catching up on the Test match today. Almost finished this.(see pic below) Great story of WW2 bombers and in particular one raid in 1944 to Nuremberg. Personal interest as my uncle was a navigator in bombers in ww2. I was surprised to find that the author was the pilot who got shot down and held captive in first Gulf war when his Tornado went down (quite a big news story if you recall?). He was based at RAF Laarbruch on Dutch/ German border - really bizarre but I worked there for a time in 1990 when they were being deployed. I remember watching the Tornados taking off and landing at night. As they say, all things and people are connected by not many steps.
