There were quite a few things he didn't know!I wouldn't both mentioning the make of inner tubes fitted. For most people it's the tyres and their condition that's more important. Quoting Shimano,he didn't mention the name, part numbers, hacks me off.I don't want to spend ages checking whether it's Tourney or Tiagra. They weren't Dura Ace or he would have told us in block capitals. Glad he seems to have used the bike, what happened to the original parts?Waiting with interest for further pics, watching out of sheer badness. Whippet, you've brightened my evening no end! Cheers, Pete.

Give him a break guys, he just put the decimal place in the wrong place. £85 sounds on the high side but reasonable... He did put the decimal point in wrong place didn't he? Please tell me he did...surely he did, didn't he, didn't he!!! ?

Like Pete said,I reckon people are watching it out a morbid sense of curiosity.

Must be the 'supersonic' front inner tube that makes it worth so much!

From the pictures, this is certainly not a 1972 'Grand Prix'. From what I can see, it is probably a 1981 or '82 Aerospace (lugged) frame. Perhaps the seller has problems with the number ten? (See comments about the value being £85, not £850.) It's good to see a Viscount nicely 'restored', presumably for use rather than sale, although most of us would query the idea of fitting such modern components. But the price is clearly ridiculous, even at £750. You cannot add up the time and expensive new components added and come up with a value of a bike. It's someone's law that, for bike prices, the total is always less than the sum of the parts. If someone has £750 to spare and wants a fast bike with modern components, why buy this? And if you want a good Viscount, you could get three or four for that money.

A pristine 600ex in Grimsby now heads the list if you follow your link. For £250. That is a realistic price but, if I recall correctly, the last 600ex in similar condition was listed a couple of times before it made £232. My 600ex (featured in some DFR1 pictures) is the same colour and with the same components - apart from pedals and clinchers rather than tubs - and mine has a larger frame and looks rather battered compared with this. I see the seller was impelled to mention the death fork.

That is quite nice and in good condition, but I don't think it will be snapped up within minutes, hours or days come to that. Is that frame size of 22.5" in listing correct? Did they make 22.5?

Is that frame size of 22.5" in listing correct? Did they make 22.5? In the (I think 1982) data sheet I have (on Flickr: 600ex) they list only whole inch sizes from 21" to 25"; BUT in the 1981 flyer they only list half inch sizes ( Aerospace 600 12) from 21.5" to 24.5". So it would seem they changed at some point and the measurement could be accurate. (I tried to be too clever with the quotes and can't sort it out.)

Half inch wouldn't be that big of a deal, but it could be inch in real terms (if measured a little generously) and it does look quite short at head tube?

He must be eavesdropping, price now reduced;-£750! That will get punters beating a path to his door. Cheers, Pete. Reduced again, now ONLY £700 with less than 12 hours to go! A touch of panic setting in? Will he reduce it further as the cold light of reality illuminates his bike? Cheers, Pete.
