In light blue (like the Indy) and quite good nick, but with parts exchanged. Some of you know that I've started working at Cycle Surgery--hence my recent very sporadic appearance--and yesterday, someone came in with a blue Viscount. Frame is in quite good nick, original steel rims and original brakes, from what I could gather.
Not sure if it was an Indy as there was no top tube sticker. Anyway, I couldn't help the customer at this stage, but sent him away to get some parts for the bike that I know will definitely fit and come back so I can get him back on the road. I've also asked him to join this forum; I think he was quite interested in the idea of a bunch of people meeting up to talk about their favourite bikes.
He's bought his from eBay and I'm pretty sure we remember it. It has a blue saddle with rivets. I recall it, I think.
And I've encountered something else: Viscount aren't the only bikes with a press-fit bottom bracket involving just a spindle and two bearings. Nope: I stumbled over a Dutch bike (Pointer) which had this system installed. The spindles are normally 127mm and with shoulders and they have no circlips, but a 'dedicated' area where the bearings (6003 2RS, so same size as Viscounts) are seated. On that bike one of the bearings had slipped off and had come out of the frame. The spindle couldn't be saved, it was far too corroded.
Interesting concept and I'll get in touch with a friend who's been dealing with Dutch bikes for a few years, maybe he can point me to a seller who may have over sized spindles, which could potentially be a solution for the rapidly shrinking number of original spindles.
Anyway, I'm pleased to ride one of my bikes to work every day. That's roughly 40 min of fun--and back (depending on how fast I'm going). I can truly say that the Viscountess is performing well. Just love the bike more and more.
