Nowhere near the glory of the UK L'Heroica or the other organised rides that Viscounts have participated in recently. Not approaching the excitement of DFR2 or the Bognor to Canada run, but I did ride my other Lambert to work today (about 8km - sounds better than 5 miles). This is a later 'bert, fillet brazed and only distinguishable from early Viscounts by the transfers/decals/stickers and the 'L' labelled components. Has alloy forks, I think not Mark I. The frame is a bit small for me so I usually limit it to fairly gentle trips. But it was great fun today, with quite a tight ride (perhaps because of the ally forks?). It is quite original. As I recall, I've put on NOS saddle and pedals with Lambert clips and straps and new bar tape and that's about it. (Picture was taken when I got the bike, before I changed anything. I've put white bar tape on.) It's a pity about the spokes (rusty). Perhaps I should try Lewisg's lemon juice and steel wool approach. Also the paint, although generally not bad, has numerous rusty chips.

I really wish I had the right hours and route to commute to work on a Viscount. The last time I commuted by bike was also about 8k back in the early 80's with a route through the old NY Worlds Fair ('64-65) site. Made the whole day at work more tolerable.

I'm missing my old ride to work. I'm still trying to work out a way of getting to the new ofice which isn't an hour of dodgy junctions and near misses. Your commute through the Worlds Fair site sounds a lot better than my slog up the hill to Bolton! A friend wrote this lovely essay about how wierd Corona Park can be on a foggy night: superlefty.com/2004/11/the-unisphere.html

The roads of Queens were very unkind to my rims.

I'm commuting on either the Viscountess or the blue Sport for the time being. As soon as I've got my red flash back, I'll commute on that, too. For the winter, I'd like to build up a SS/fixie, but also want to finally get that Lambert back onto the roads. Just need the money (and time) to do so.

For the winter, I'd like to build up a SS/fixie. You trendy London types! Check out my post about SS conversion for my son in the tech. section. We were down there last weekend and saw the big ss/fixie trend at close quarters. Back down again next weekend too, can't wait- great place to get ideas etc.

I will pm for your mobile number though and be in touch for when I'm down another time with more 'leisure time' on my hands. It would be good!
