You might be interested in this thread I found about old Ritchey MTB - from 1983 - Ritchey Competition 1983 - The interesting thing is that the bottom bracket has press fit cartridge bearings, a bit like our 1970s Viscounts & Lamberts, but apparently held in by large circlips. I searched on eBay for Ritchey BBs and came up with this one: Ritchey BB I would guess that this is a much later version and it appears to have (the photos aren't very good) the bearings retained by screw-in cups. I have asked the seller about the diameter of the spindle - if it's 17mm it could be a Viscount replacement - the 118.5mm one should be OK.

Cusqueno - your search for high quality, dependable BB/spindle options is highly admirable. Thanks for all the info and links.
It does seem that if anyone is thinking of going to buy a 70's Lambert/Viscount , then this is the one area of the bike that will sooner or later become a nettle they have to grasp.
