Field report: I'm happy to say this is a good alternative if you are unable to procure the old Viscount BB spindle. Very smooth on my single speed conversion. No problems so far after the first 50 miles. Comes in 122mm for 10 speed and a 107mm which works well for single speed.

Probably a tad problematic with a double chain set. The chain line will probably be off. I've recently learned that 5mm makes a massive difference. Glad you're enjoying the Kiwi bike, though. :-)

Hi Stella, If I remember correctly, the Viscount axle is 122mm so the VO Grand Cru should work well on a double too. Check their website. They've got plenty of sizes available. The Kiwi is a blast and gets the Viscount head badge noticed.

122? Uh, I had a different figure in my head. 126, but that's the dropouts, right? As I'm planning on building a few more I'd need a few options (other than Phil Wood). Will have to look up the one you're using.

Measure an old axle to be sure and there is always Steve to be the final word. Don't forget that you have to grind the tubes that extend into the BB shell to allow it to fit.
