I have a very weak spot for racks, panniers, bags and straps. This presses my buttons! rack by Sooper 8, on Flickr Link here

That rack will look good on the "touring" project I've envisioned. Thanks for finding it.

I think this has 'Bendo' written all over it.

Did you see these on eBay? Excellent racks - same as on the Deore 18ax? Went for a good (I.e. Low) price, but still more than I could spend. Very tasty indeed. Rare to find a new rack with the old rattrap mechanism. And you all seem well aware of my preference for silver components. I think I would happily trust any of you to buy me a Christmas present. Yes, that's a hint.
The Showa rack ensemble is food for thought... Thanks for alerting me. Even after seeing Jem's Deore AX, I never quite twigged that those shortie racks were actually made for the front. I'm more used to the kind that attach to the cantilever brake bosses. b
