Hi all. Confession time.I've just had a slight slip of the finger problem, and it seems I've bought an alloy frame!!!! Well, not just any alloy frame. It's a Vitus 979 decalled as a Peugheot.Always wanted one,the only alloy frame I've ever really wanted.A very reasonable, under £50. I'll keep you all informed of the progress. Never could spell that French name,so re-badging may be in order! Cheers, Pete.

At that price you can give it a whirl and sell on if it doesn't do it for you...

My purple anodized Vitus 979 is still going strong at 25 years old. It was my first new bike after the Viscount. Very nice comfortable ride. Does yours have the anodized finish? No paint to chip if it does!! A word of caution… if it has the grub screw to tighten against the seat post, be sure the seat post contact area is hardened steel which was special for this purpose, otherwise the grub screw will dig a hole in the soft alloy seat post and it will break off on you (death seat post). How do I know? It happened to me (stupid bike shop) luckily at slow speed and I just landed on my arse. Cheers, Michael

Been there ever since I rode my first bike! Thanks for that very sound advice Michael, seems like I'm not the only mistake maker about. Not picking it up until next week, then I'll go on a seat post hunt. 25mm post anyone? Cheers, Pete.

I, too, have sinned. Sort of. Picked up the Kona Cinder Cone, which lives now in the shed alongside the Lococo and two Viscounts. Pretty dire state, that bike, but I reckon I get it back on the roads. Possibly do that as a joined project.

As a child I was forced to sleep in the cutlery draw as we couldn't afford a cot. Oh the bliss of post-war,baby-booming Britain, with Stafford Cripps in charge of the economy! Cheers, Pete.
