I've finally got around to picking up some sprint pedals for my Pro (MKS - some funky Georges Sorel clips to follow). Having already purchased them I've noticed that the 'bolt segments' are different on each pedal - Bike Radar link below for image to illustrate: www.bikeradar.com/gallery/article/mks-sylvan-pedals-review-17489/1/Could someone explain why this is for me please? And also any tips for a decent pedal spanner would also be appreciated. Thanks!

Hey, Lewis.
Not really sure what you mean by bolt segments, but I assume it's the two-whole bit on one side of each pedal; they're where you attach the 'rat traps'.
Decent Pedal spanner either from Park Tool (expensive), Cyclo, Var. I've never used 'cheap' ones, so can't judge. Cusqueno recently posted a link to a distributor with decent prices. Have a dig around the forum. Can't find it anywhere, maybe Cusqueno can post the link again.

By 'bolt segment' I mean the bit that you would use the spanner on at the top of the threads. One pedal has the normal 'bolt' style, the other just a circular ribbed segment.
A Google image search shows some MKS pedals unmatched like this, others both normal. Some images of the unmatched sets show an extra segment too.
Confused!

Anyone use a Lezyne pedal spanner? They look pretty and have the 3 'sizes'. I'm more than happy with my Lezyne track pump in the same style : )

Lewisg,I take it you mean the grooved section of the left hand,in the photo, pedal? I suspect that the pedals were not a pair originally as they would have identical axles Apart from lh and rh threads of course. It's possible that one of the axles has been changed at some time,if they are an original pair. I only ever use a standard 15mm spanner, some pedals may need other sizes depending on age and country of origin. Anyway, they look nice and shiny, and as long as the bearings are good and you didn't pay too much,I'd just use them and enjoy the bike. Hope that helps. Cheers, Pete.

I see what you mean. Thought it was a reflection. No idea why that is and I've never seen it either.
The tool hasn't got three sizes, but you can use it in different angles, which I VERY helpful. Oh, and I just looked: you can then open your bottle of beer after all the hard work with it. lol

Ah well - one can never have enough bottle openers!
Whilst that picture is not of the actual pedals they are the same and condition is similar. They were an Ebay purchase and listed as unused so I assumed a new(ish) pair.
Had I looked more closely in the first place I may not have bid as paid about the same as a brand new pair!
Strange how many online images do show this difference on the same pedals - pretty sure they're not all the exact same set!!!
I'll stick 'em on the bike and try not to let the lack of symmetry get to me : )
