I'm trying to fix-up an Aerospace Pro with proper centre-pull brakes, but I'm missing a few bits ... If you can help, please get in touch; condition or brand is not too important, as long as they work! (I can recover most rusty bits with elbow grease!) Thanks, Rod
▪1x fixing bolt (the long one with a square head inside the caliper) ▪2x cable hangers (front & rear), preferably with adjusters ▪2x triangular yokes with the pinch bolt

eBay is a good source; these may work.

Sad that the mailing rates and paperwork are restrictive from the USA to Europe, Great Britain, even Canada. It makes it difficult to share bike goods unless it’s something very hard to find. There’s much talk over on the CR list about dispersing one’s bikes and components after we pass on. Best, John “wheelson”

Thank you both for your tips ... I'll keep an eye on the bay, especially the UK version. In the meantime if anyone has leftovers they're happy to sell on, please message me! TTFN, Rod

Best, John “wheelson” I think it was only maybe 10-12 years ago when I used to send and receive small parcel sized things from USA and it was a fair price. Since then it has become just outrageously overpriced. There must be some reason for it (not just a computer algorithm to maximise profit) ? it's a real shame.

TTFN, Rod I'll have a look Rod, but fear it could be ages before I can dig around , and it's only a slim chance anyway - but I have made a mental note

I am occasionally close to Canada so I looked up postage rates from Canada to UK destinations. They are also quite high, so no point in crossing the border to send a package.

If you can find a bike shop that has been in business for maybe 50 years, they should have a great stash of old (oops classic) parts. The best of these shops look a bit shabby and have an old guy (oops senior citizen) tinkering in the back. The old guy should be wearing a slightly greasy shop apron and bonus points if he talks to himself. Have a friendly talk with the old guy; explain your plight and perhaps mention how you really prefer the old steel bikes to the new ones made from plastic. If he offers you tea or coffee you have it made. Expect the tea or coffee to taste old and bitter; don't spit it out and be wary if offered old hard cookies and crunchy donuts.

Thanks Jem, and thank you too Jim ... that raised a smile on a cold evening 😊
I have discovered a new-to-me, traditional LBS, and only a few miles ride too. I may well have bitter tea or sweet resolution soon ...
I'll keep you posted! Rod

Brian Thanks for the thought Brian. A dash to the border, with some Viscount contraband ... that's quite a picture. Just a shame Canada Post are running the same overbilling ruse as USPS! The best deal used to be the fixed rate boxes, but now it seems even a simple envelope is extortionate. In the past I've bought decals stateside, but now the vendor won't even consider posting to the uk. Similarly another company in Oz ... So much for globalisation! Thanks anyway, Rod

Wait. You can get paid to do that?

Yes, but the pay is so minuscule that only old retired curmudgeons like myself can afford it these days. The shop I work with is about 15 years old and the 50-something owner gets overwhelmed with space available and pitches EVERYTHING. I, the pack rat, have to keep an eye out for Very Important Parts and also supplement from my own stash. At a premium cost, of course! Best, John “wheelson”

"Yes, but the pay is so minuscule that only old retired curmudgeons like myself can afford it" reminds me that I used to drive past an 80-acre orchard in an affluent town 20 miles from Boston. One time I asked my wife why they're growing apples on $10M worth of land, and she said "Because they are the only ones that can afford it."

I think every good LBS has (or should have) someone like you.

▪1x fixing bolt (the long one with a square head inside the caliper) ▪2x cable hangers (front & rear), preferably with adjusters ▪2x triangular yokes with the pinch bolt Hi. Your wants list doesn't seem to include the little bits of cable with nipples on both ends that fit on the calipers, which the yokes clip on to. (What is the proper name for them?) Anyway, if you do need those as well, I have a stash somewhere of these, NIB and Viscount branded. I think I bought them on eBay ages ago because they were very cheap and Viscount ones, even though they last virtually for ever and I have probably used only a couple of them. Anyway, if you or anyone else wants some (probably have to be in the UK, given the posts about mailing charges*), I would be happy to post off a few. Once I locate them (shed? cellar? I know a couple are in my bedroom, for some obscure reason). *I have just sent a Christmas card to Canada and it 'only' cost £2:20 - the same as postage to the EU. Surely an envelope with a couple of these cables shouldn't cost a lot more?

Thanks John, yes those are straddle cables according to the Viscount Dealer Manual, but might also be yokes or hanger wires in other locations. Perhaps we can meet up somewhere to save on post? ... I'm just down the road from you! Cheers, Rod
