Yesterday I was shopping (eBay) for a fork need for an Atala project. I stumbled across (and noticed) a Viscount frameset with headset and BB. I felt self satisfied when I ignored it and went on with my search; I have too many bikes said I. Then the offer came $53.03 (funny number). People really should not do things like that, at least to me. It was even being sold by an excellent charity, Unbroken Chain Cycles. Despite being on the large side (and a shipping charge) I bought it. There really is no hope for me. At this point, I have no idea what I will do with it. I suppose I need to install another frame hook. It will arrive soon and I will see what I have. It is nice to punctuate life with a little thrill.
Cheers Jim

Gadzooks, they have four more Viscounts. If you view the ad, they probably will send a similar offer to the one I received. I am through shopping for now.

Jim, I think you got the pick of the litter. The red one has a dented tube, the second one is way too big. The last two are complete and out of my price range. Thanks for removing one temptation and defining our disorder! Best, John “wheelson”

Interesting, frame looks exactly like my bike (see link below or in bike photographs). Mine has the same markings on the front fork droput as well. Also curious that it has no decals (or any remnants of them). Is there a serial number on the underside of the bottom bracket? Emeric www.flickr.com/photos/197303532@N08/shares/897z8zY1od

I am especially interested in the forks, which have similar crowns, but seem to have different (with and without eyelets) drop outs. Once the frame arrives, I will add the serial number to the Viscount & Lambert data base.

The blue Viscount frame arrived. The serial number is obscured by thick paint, perhaps 2988 EA; I must remove some paint to be sure. I think the blue is a respray as it seems to cover thick white paint (perhaps the original color). The fork crown looks like the one found on Viscount Sports, but the nice Tange drop outs do not have eyelets. The headset is old knurled style.
EDIT After sanding through several layers of paint, the serial number is 2538 EA. Paint layers from inside, red primer, white, gray primer, dark blue, gray primer, medium blue. This puppy needs to be stripped of its paint.
All the best Jim

Jim - do we need to arrange an 'intervention' for you?

Jim - do we need to arrange an 'intervention' for you? Honest Doctor, it all started when I wanted a bicycle for Christmas and did not get one; my big brother got one, so did my friends. So I started doing odd jobs and bought my own, then another, and another, then a few more. Now I have more than 20; a person should really have one for each week of the year, right? I know of a guy with more than 200, that's not too many, is it?
I ordered a jersey like this.

Jim, if you're going to be guilty of anything, the charge of OCBD and BAD carry only the sentence of joy and no punishment!
Cheers, Michael

Nothing wrong with multiple bikes as long as OCBD isn’t grounds for a divorce. The purpose-built bike always a good excuse, but you have to be creative: racing bike (never raced and at 74 likely never will), touring bike (last multi day tour was in 2009), travel bike (since you might be going many different destinations this could account for several bikes), gravel bike (steel or aluminum, one of each?), commuter bike (paved or trail?), country tribune bike (British, French, Italian, USA, . . .), . . . Seriously, it’s a relatively cheap obsession when compared with many others. The only real downside I can think of is space available. Best, John “wheelson”

Best, John “wheelson” There is an empty Kmart for sale in town (91,540 Square Feet); only $3.8 million. Lots of room and I could even ride indoors in the winter. Of course I don't have that kind of money, so it is just a funny thought. Then again, I wonder what would happen if I were to buy a lottery ticket! Only 26 million to one!
Today's laugh brought to you by Jim.
