Saw a newspaper photo of Dame Sarah Storey, Paralympian extraordinaire on her first bike, complete with stabilisers. it was one of the bought in loop-frame bikes from (probably) BH, but it definately had the head tube shield in red/blue/shiny.

John, thanks for posting this. Sad and embarrassed to say, I’d never heard of Dame Sarah Storey until you posted this. Of course, I’m on the West side of the Pond but still . . . What an inspiring story! After searching through a zillion photos, I found the one you referenced, and the little bike does indeed wear the Viscount badge. Best, John “wheelson”

For those who have to live without access to the Daily Mail's online content, here's the (uncredited) photo John refers to: Dame Sarah Storey by RMT@261, on Flickr

Perhaps honorary membership of this forum would be the icing on the cake of her Damehood; 40 World Championships; 17 gold and 11 silver & bronze Paralympic medals?

In a rather tenuous extension to this thread, here's a picture of my own double award-winning 'Dame' this morning after completing the Solihull Marie Curie Hospice's ' Tommy Godwin' 30km Sportive: TG2021 Anne by RMT@261, on Flickr The Tommy Godwin Challenge cycle sportive was set up in 2013 to honour the memory of 1948 Olympic cycling medallist Tommy Godwin who would have been 100 years old in 2020. Since its inception, the challenge has raised over £90,000 for the Marie Curie Hospice, West Midlands, which provided care and support to Tommy and his family before he passed away in 2012, the year in which he acted as an Olympic Ambassador. Anne and I have taken part in the Sportive every year since 2014, and we did so as a Viscount pair this year: TG2021 R&A by RMT@261, on Flickr A new addition to this year's ride programme was a 'retro' 70km ride, which was preceded by a review of bikes by a local restorer, Doug Pinkerton. Although we hadn't entered the 70km event, we were somehow included in Doug's review and were surprised to find ourselves jointly awarded third prize in the Classic Bike and Rider awards (apparently, first and second places went to bikes that Tommy Godwin had actually ridden himself, so I was pretty chuffed with third place!). I think that turning up as a matching "his 'n hers" pair helped a lot! Anyway, our Viscounts brought smiles to a few people's faces this morning, which is always a good thing. I like the handlebar conversion on your wife’s bike. Looks a super practical day to day runabout.

TG2021 Cert by RMT@261, on Flickr Good for you both, Robt. And good for Viscounts as well. Those are quite beautiful bikes indeed. I’m current trying to plan my Viscount/Lambert herd to be able to use one in most any type ride. It’s great to show them off as you most certainly did. Best, John “wheelson”
