These are amazing although I doubt I could tow one without electric assist. The Z-Triton is wild, electric drive bike camper that converts to a boat. Just seemed fun to see.

As you say, best for use with an e-bike. Having just pared my bike camping kit to 18.7 pounds including panniers but not food, I'm committed to leg-powered travel.

Pretty cool concept that I’ve been following for years, even before ebikes. My only complaint, other than lack of leg power, would be the wide load necessary on a narrow rail trail or towpath. I suppose one could keep under the unexpanded size of a towed child or pet cart. Same with recumbent trikes, I guess. Still, the mobile unit has piqued my interest. Best, John “wheelson”

I keep coming back the the theory that less is more. Less size, less weight, less moving parts, etc. Of course if you take that theory to the limit you get rid of your bike, stay home, and just think about riding. So I guess there is a magic point somewhere along that curve, probably different for each person.

So I guess there is a magic point somewhere along that curve, probably different for each person. Brian That was my philosophy in 2009 when I did the Great Allegheny Passage and C&O Towpath in a week, riding with a Boy Scout Troop and leaders. I rode independently, carrying all my stuff - food, alcohol stove, sleeping bag liner, foam pad, bivy tent, clothes, all on the Cannondale, mostly in mini panniers and racks. I think I overpacked if anything! It can be done and quite comfortably, using the trail side facilities, commercial campgrounds, even the YMCA showers when camping on their “lawn” ($10 well spent), making even the “less is better” even more workable. Now I’m sure our significant others might not consider it quite as much fun, but it was then and I’d probably leave tomorrow to do it again. Oh wait, it’s raining like crazy, maybe day after tomorrow! After all, it only rained one day during the 2009 trip! With my current medical issues, long rides are pretty well done for 2021, high hopes for 2022. Best, John “wheelson”
