It's Ruby Red, but can't remember the RAL number. I have it somewhere, I think, in my old messages. Busaste knows, or maybe Cusqueno? I'm a bit busy today, but may be able to go through the messages at some point.

Anyone know the RAL number or name for the red paint used on Aerospace Sports? Touch up required! Cheers, Pete. I've just found an old e-mail (August 2012!) from Steve in which he says "red on Aerospace frames was Ruby Red RAL nr 3003". Hope that helps.

I have just found this further information in an old e-mail from Steve (a couple of links were broken, so I've removed them) : "Viscount powder coated their frames so they must have used an off the shelf paint. I know this for certain with the VA Sport so it is very unlikey - especially given the cost constraints that the company operated under - that a non-standard paint was used for the Pro. With this in mind it might be worth looking at a RAL colour chart. "The silver VA Pro frame colour looks suspiciously like RAL 7035 ...and these earlier BS colour charts: www.colour-coatings.co.uk/bs4800.htmlwww.colour-coatings.co.uk/bs381c.html"If you do go for a fresh powder coat it is worth considering a final clear coat (Viscount used one). It transforms the paint finish and its durability (you can't polish powder coating, its weird stuff!). BUT powder coaters seem to struggle with clear coating. I've had a couple of frames recoated because the clear coat reacted with the paint. None of my local powder coaters are up to it!!!!!"

Thanks for the information.I have to say that Ral 3003 on the colour chart doesn't look as bright as my frame.Mind,I do have red/green colour vision problems anyway! Probably have to take the bike to a paint shop to get a match.I only want to tidy up a few chips and sccrapes. Cheers, Pete.

It's possible that Viscount stuck to BS colours and didn't meddle with RAL - or selected from all the standard colours available. For instance, a colour used c.1981 is described as 'Linden Green' in advertising material. I believe that this is the colour of my 600ex. However, Linden Green comes from the BS5252 Colour Chart and has the number 12 E 53. So I would say that standard colours were used but that they were not necessarily (but might have been) from the RAL chart.

Ah joy,it's just what I might have expected really, knowing the ramifications around Viscount. It's most important that we can try and collect as much info as possible for future enthusiasts. Thanks for taking the time to go back through you records.Much appreciated. Cheers, Pete.

Pete, I will try and remember to add details like this to the list of Lambert and Viscount models that I started on a thread called "could we crowd-source a Viscount/Lambert data base?"My initial thought was to get all the models in a time line, then I added a few other categories like price when new, colours offered, weight, etc I will post that back up and then if people can add to it, great.

An ebay search for RAL Colour Chart shows that RAL & British Standard swatch fans and posters are not terribly expensive providing one will use them!
They're actually pretty cheap compared to Pantone fans.
Will pick one up myself shortly as need to get on with sorting out the paintwork on both my Pro and the Sport. Sadly I don't (yet) have any red/blue/black/yellow/green/mauve Viscounts in my collection in order to help everyone else!
