An interesting video about a cycling club that would commute out of the city by train with their bicycles then spend a day cycle touring elsewhere. The roads look sublime compared to today’s standards.

I wish I could do that today! I also wish 1950s USA took cycling more seriously. At the time bicycles were mostly considered toys or transportation for children. Serious cycling such as cycle touring was rare. Cycling did take off in the 1960s and 70s. In my college years most students wanted to ride across the country and camp next to the road.

I was waiting for the kid on the tricycle to get t-boned by his older brother or one of his friends.

Corduroy shorts and knee-length woollen socks! Strangely reminiscent of my first school uniform ca.1957: I was never aware that adults wore those too. By choice!
And the plus-fours!!
Today everyone would be wearing skin-tight lycra!

A half a pale ale or chestnut mild and a cheese and onion sarnie sounds like it would hit the spot right about now.

Organised by the CTC - Reg Shaw was the Secretary and he's the man in spectacles 0.55 in, issuing tickets.

What a great video. It's been a while since I've seen a cyclist biking with a necktie or stopping for a cigarette break.
