Having a couple of bare Viscount frames around, I weighed them on the kitchen Weight Watchers scales. A 63cm (24 3/4") fillet brazed Aerospace frame was 1.981kg (4lb 6oz in the old money). A 58cm (22 1/2") lugged frame, of the sort with solid top tube brazed on cable guides and with a 'Chromium Molybdenum' sticker on the seat tube, was 2.419kg (5lb 5oz). The frame was originally part of a model named 'Corsair Wayfarer'. Wow! What a difference - almost 500g (just over 1lb).

Is that just the frame,no forks? I've been having to consider a weight lose agenda before DFR2. I've started on the bike as the weather has only been suitable for imbibing training recently. When the bike's ready,I'll attempt to post some pics. Useful info though. Cheers, Pete.

Amazing! It's still nothing, to be honest, but goes to show how much the components add.

Pete - yes just the bare frames. There are detailed differences: the lugged frame has brazed on top tube cable guides, a brazed on seat clamp and a brazed on brake mount on the rear brake bridge. The other frame has none of these but does have (non-standard) brazed on gear cable stops and brazed on rear brake cable stop. Not enough to make much difference either way.

That's right. It originally belonged to Ray C. I've never quite decided what to do with it. Present idea is to build it with a first gen Deore group set as Viscount's first Mountain Bike (!!)

Just received my latest - a 600ax frame (which someone has parted out). This is an Aerospace frame with the Chrome-Molybdenum label, from probably 1982 (it has the 1981 Triple British Champions label). 57cm (22.5") CTT frame size. Weight 2.2kg (4lbs 13ozs)- so between the 62cm fillet brazed Aerospace and the 58cm Corsair Wayfarer. 600ax weight includes braze-ons for the DT shifters, the right hand bottom bracket cup (presumably stuck) and the seat tube clamping bolt. 'Lightening' slots cut in bottom of bottom bracket shell. Is this normal? It looks original - the paint goes into the slots. No number on the BB shell but one rear drop out is stamped 'AX 24'. I've not seen a Viscount drop out stamped with a number before.
Frame is that pinkish metallic grey. Has anyone any idea of what is a match for this?

I was posting up to ask Cusquenos thoughts on that.

Resurrecting an old thread here, I know, but just to add the info - my blue and silver Aerospace Pro, completely bare, weighs 1930gm.(4lb 4.08oz.) It's 22" center to top of seat tube. I'll make a point of having the silver black one weighed soon; it's one inch taller.

As a comparison, a full Reynolds DB 531 Bertin C 37 lugged, 60 cm frame weighs 2,088 gms. The fork, with a forged crown, weighs 788gms.(Weights measured on a digital scale.) Those Viscount frames were seriously light, especially considering that cusqueno's 63 cm Viscount weighs 1,981 gms.

Yes! I built my Viscount TT bike to show - 1) skinny tubes are aero without foils, and 2) using a Viscount frame I can build a TT bike that is about the same weight as current bikes. I'm really happy with the results so far.
