Thanks for the lead Michael. Right size and good condition. I will think about this one but it is a 4 hour drive each way, which is probably too far. I just returned from a week of big hills in New Hampshire. From there it would have been only 2 hours but who knew.

Update - I have been trying to acquire this bike but I'm running into many obstacles:
1. Initially, the seven hour round trip was daunting so I thought I would pass on this one. But the more I thought about it, the more I wanted it.
2. We decided to combine bike retrieval with a short camping trip in Vermont, so I responded to the seller that I would take the bike if it was still available. No reply, which is a bad sign on Craigslist.
3. In the interim, I checked out a campground in the Green Mountain National Forest and discovered that Vermont requires a 14-day quarantine for anyone staying overnight if you are traveling from another state and county that has over 400 COVID-19 cases per million population. Massachusetts is doing a good job containing the virus but unfortunately I live in the hardest hit Middlesex County and we exceed the limit.
I will try contacting the seller again to tomorrow and might have to make the round trip drive.

Some states (Maine?) will waiver the 14 day quarantine if you have a negative COVID test within two days of your arrival or you can serve your 14 day "sentence" in a remote camp if that's where you're staying. It's getting close to time when a trip to Vermont is a spectacular thing. Good luck with the acquisition, 2020 is turning out to be a year of surprises with the situation changing almost daily. A Federal Court Judge in Pennsylvania just declared some of our Governor's shutdown orders unconstitutional. CDC guidelines must still be followed. I'm guessing an appeal. Best, John "wheelson"

The Maine quarantine was to be enforced at the lodging point so an in-and-out would not be a problem. Also, several neighboring states Vermont, New Hampshire, and New York were exempt because of similar COVID numbers. One state (NJ, RI, or DE?) was actually monitoring license plates. Insane. When we vacationed on the North Carolina Outer Banks in late June, we were technically supposed to quarantine for 14 days on return to Pennsylvania even though the numbers for the two counties in NC were drastically lower than those in Western PA. Go figure. Brian, I hope this works for you, that's a pretty nice Viscount at a very good price. Best, John "wheelson"

I'm sure it would be easy to circumvent the rule. Vermont has had great success keeping their infection rate low so I'll respect their rules. I think it is within the rules to cross into Vermont, pick up a bike, then exit. But I was trying to combine the long trip to retrieve the bike with some recreation to dilute the car drudgery.
The main problem with this acquisition is the non-response from the seller.

I hope the seller gets back to you. I guess I've been lucky with good communication and honesty with CL sellers in the past. The good news is the listing is still active so stay optimistic!

Still no luck contacting the Viscount Pro seller but the listing is still up. I offered full price so that's not the problem. I also have Craigslist offers out on two other bikes, one full price and one about two thirds of the asking price. Oddly, I have not received a reply from these sellers either. I have encountered non-responses occasionally in the past but three at once seems a bit weird.

Brian, I have had some problems lately contacting people through gmail. This is particularly true on the Classic Rendezvous list. Many times I have to contact through the forum and not privately. I don't know if this is a gmail problem or if my responses somehow end up in their spam box. Is it possible to contact by phone? Best, John "wheelson"

Good thought. Unfortunately no phone numbers on any of the listings, and I am using my own email service, not gmail. Plus, when you respond through Craigslist it anonymizes your email address on both sides of the communication. So if email is being trashed, it is happening on the Craigslist server and it seems likely they would simply pass the messages through without filtering.

I have sold on CL and have been bombarded with fake, fishing and theieving emails. I have bought on CL and for my email to get a response I had to add real person or real buyer to the message. I also had to send the message once per day. You have to standout from the spam.
Good Luck Jim

My name, address, and real email address are included in my messages. I have bought and sold dozens of bikes on CL and have never had a problem, either as a buyer or seller. I know a lot of people have complained about buyers not showing up to take delivery but I have not had that problem either. Just lucky maybe. I might post something myself and then respond to the ad just to see if my messages are being routed Thanks for the suggestions.

It appears that emails sent from my "regular" address were not being received by Craigslist sellers. I tried using my Gmail address for a local bike I was interested in. The seller responded that the bike had been sold. I asked if he had received my previous messages and he said no, but he wished he had because I offered more money for the bike. I wish he had as well. I was trying to pay $100 for this bike:
Here is a photo in case the link disappears. It is a 70's Dawes with Reynolds 531 frame, Stronglight crankset, high end Suntour running gear, nice mudguards, nice paint, new tires, my size. Shee-it.

I also decided the Viscount Aerospace Pro in Vermont is too far away, at least until we get a rainy day. I would rather have another long September bike ride than another bike.

I'd pay $100 any day of the week for this. Looks superb. That must be a touch annoying to have missed out!

Still no word from the Aerospace Pro seller despite repeated and varied attempts to contact them. I am exasperated by Craigslist. As an experiment I listed a bike for sale today then tried to send myself a reply using various combinations of computers and email clients. Most did not work, leading me to believe my replies to other peoples' ads are not being routed through Craigslist's "double blind" email system.
This is very sad because there have been a number of excellent bikes that I bid on within hours of them being posted but I don't believe my messages were received. So far I have missed the following, all my size and all in great condition for restoration:
Aerospace Pro - asking $105 Dawes listed above - asking $100 1969 Raleigh Professional with full Campagnolo parts - asking $225 1976 Raleigh Professional almost all original - asking $250
Ironically, the bike I listed drew an immediate response and was picked up and paid for within 5 hours of listing.

That's a curious phenomenon going on there Brian. I vaguely understand the 'double blind' email set up, but have nothing to offer in the way of help. I wish I could as it seems so painful to be seeing those bargains and then not being able to even make contact .

Pardon me if this is getting too far off topic. The Craigslist relay assigns fake email addresses to both parties to protect privacy. When you send a message to the fake address, it relays it to the real address, both ways. Craigslist performs screening on messages it relays to eliminate spam. I suspect my messages are being screened out but I don't know why. I have tried different email accounts and email clients, and different computer. All of these devices are going through my home router and ISP. I plan to try a computer not tied to my ISP to see if that works. I might try my phone as well, using the cell phone network instead of my home router, but that requires some setup and is very tedious to answer ads on the phone. I will get to the bottom of it at some point. I was hoping to acquire a few nice project bikes for winter, which seems like it will be long indeed.

Well, I did it. Finally got hold of the Aerospace Pro seller in Vermont, struck a deal for $50, and drove the 400 mile round trip with my wife today to pick it up. Thank you, Triitout, for alerting me to this bike in the first place and to everyone else who egged me on to get it. The condition is fair, not as good as it looked in the listing, as usual. The fork is already replaced, supposedly with the factory recall fork. I don't know what they look like yet so I cannot say for sure. The seller might still have the original death fork in his attic and I told him I would pay shipping-plus if he would send it to me if found. It does have an original leather Viscount saddle. The bike will need a complete restoration and I might try my hand at painting it so it will be a while before this one hits the road. It might not be a Pro, though. This bike seems identical to my Aerospace Grand Prix and the decal on the top tube is worn off, so my big question is what are the key identifying features of the Pro? I will put up a bunch of pictures tomorrow.
Also, a beautiful day in New Hampshire and Vermont today. Brian

I'm happy that the deal worked out. It really is almost the same way I got my Pro (black/silver version). A blury Craig's List photo listed for $100, a 250 mile round trip pickup also for $50! It really is a Pro as they were the only model that came in Blue/Silver. Your wheels look original and unless the original dealer switched them out, they should be tubular. Looking at the fork detailed photo, it is the Yamaha replacement identified by the slightly sloping crown. The Sport was also chrome, (not the aluminum DF) but with the more boxy, generic looking crown. The only real differences from your Aerospace GP is the leather saddle, FD (Thunderbird for GP vs Titlist for Pro) and RD ( Crane for Pro vs Titlist for GP) and the butting on the spokes. It was their highest priced model retailing at $269 in the states. Good luck with it! It will make for some good tinkering time

My rims are clinchers. I guess the Pro came in two versions - tubular and clincher. I find the minuscule differences among models somewhat weird. It seems like they should have had one model "The Aerospace" and various options. I have some tubular rims from a Lambert Pro project and also another identical set from a Sekine. I was thinking I might make up a nice set of clinchers and one of sew-ups. I can never decide whether I want to keep bikes completely original or upgrade the spinning metal.

Not doubting you won’t but it’s worth checking the caliper reach first especially on the front fork before you go to 700c. On my Aerospace 400 I couldn’t lower the brake blocks enough and they were catching the edge of the tyre.

Try the offset brake shoes: bdopcycling.com/ I used them on my 700c - 650b Austro Daimler Vent Noir ll conversion (shown somewhere in the "Other Bikes" tab). Easy to change to a spare wheelset and flip the shoes and move side to side. I may do the same with my Specialized Allez to gain a more rail trail rideable tire. The A-D goes from 700c-25's to 650b-32's, quite a difference. Best, John "wheelson"
