HLloyd Cycles selection of decals is mind blowing. I’ve got a Raleigh Panasonic Cadet to refurbish at some point but the decal set is £35! More than I paid for the bike

That's more than I paid for the whole bike!" ..whether it be about tyres, brake pads or a nice saddle, new stuff is expensive.

When I built my white Viscount from an old frame, I tracked the cost. I spent $1287 building a bike that is now worth $300-$400. Refurbishing is much cheaper; but you can still spend more than the bike is worth. I also have a Peugeot PY10, build cost was similar but I could most likely sell it for$1400 or so.
Such things are beyond logic.

Interesting cable stop for the AP front brake ... do you have a close-up of that Jim? Thanks, Rod

I've owned very few new bikes over the years, and my rebuilds/refurbs probably cost many times more than a comparable new bike. That is, if you can find a comparable new bike. Trouble is, the bikes I like are typically vintage/classic and there ARE no comparable new bikes and if the vintage/classic is in perfect shape, it's already out of my price range. It's still a pretty inexpensive hobby, though, compared to many others.
And I really love bringing the (usually) worn, tired, and decrepit victims back from their near death experience!!
Best, John "wheelson"
