Those with very deep pockets and less wealthy people who just like to look might be interested in a company that has launched using the old British Chater Lea name. They have just announced a small range of crank sets and rings. I can't see a price mentioned anywhere, but their pedals are £250, so I would expect something eye-watering for the cranks and rings. (It wasn't clear to me if the £250 was for a pair of pedals or each. I would hope the first.)

What??? I guess if people buy a product, then you have a market. But it must be such a small market?
It's all relative, but I can't imagine spending more on a pair of pedals than I would on a bike. How good can they be, and how much more enjoyment can you have with them compared to say a used £10 pair of Sakae Ringyo's ?

Maybe it's the cynic in me, but that's for people with more money than sense. If you're creating a precision engineered product, you don't 'hew' it out of stainless steel. That brings to mind visions of attacking a lump of billet with an axe! Considering the great emphasis on 'Britishness', why is the lead photo not showing the British countryside? Riding on the right of the road, wrong road signs...
If someone can make a living from it, all well and good, but I think I'll stick with a more wallet friendly approach.

I'm afraid Brexit is bringing out the worst forms of product jingoism, where every product that is by some miracle made in the UK has to have 'British' plastered all over it, preferably with the flag. Seen at its nadir in supermarkets. "Chater-Lea embodies Britain’s re-emerging prowess in advanced manufacturing while championing our island’s illustrious cycling heritage." Well, I'm sorry but advanced manufacturing never went away, although recent governments seem to have done their best to throttle it. Also, making bicycle cranks and pedals is hardly advanced manufacturing, even if CNC is used. Rant over.

'Product jingoism' is a great term that I shall endeavour to shoe-horn into a conversation today. I have seen that too. A side effect of Brexit I think.
I think the Government were keen to invoke some sort of Blitz-spirit around Brexit and the virus lockdown. It's been rather illuminating to see that those who bang the drum the loudest for that and want to hark back to WW2 era are the first ones who protest at wearing a mask to the shops, and complain about waiting to be served in the butchers because of a social distancing rule. Lord knows how they'd have managed in an actual war if they can't accept some inconvenience on this minor scale.
It seems like it's a bit of a political game to invoke past wars for your own purpose and gain, especially if you weren't there and didn't have any of the associated hardship from them.
I know they say avoid politics and religion on forums, for fear of offending - none is intended and happy to be criticised
