My wife became quite interested in Viscounts during my recent virtual DFR 8 encounter. I'd like to get her away from the Cannondale mtb and on to classic steel. The problem is I need something 48cm - 19in or even less. A mixte or ladies frame is out, as is a folder. Did anything in a "regular" frame ever exist in these sizes? I seem to recall a 48cm Lambert Super Sport on US eBay.
Please let me know if you have anything of this nature you're willing to part with, bare frame preferred as I seem to have acquired quite a bit of Lambert and Viscount spares.

Good to hear that Mrs W is interested in Viscounts. I tried to interest my wife by buying a Viscount mixte and fitting straight bars and indexed shifters, but she prefers to stick with her old Raleigh ladies bike. Why are you set against mixtes by the way? Viscount produced several models. I have seen small-frame Viscounts, but I doubt that any with full-sized wheels was smaller than 48cm - 19". However, Viscount did produce 'boys' bikes - for instance this one - with 20" wheels (not sure which 20" size). Perhaps one of these frames could be built up into a respectable bike for your wife? One of the people on this forum has or had one of these, but it weighed about as much as two Aerospace Viscounts.

One of the people on this forum has or had one of these, but it weighed about as much as two Aerospace Viscounts. For some reason or another Mrs W has always preferred a "men's" frame (probably from growing up with three fiercely competitively athletic brothers) and I have always tried to honor her preferences. She's quite happy with her small frame Cannondale mtb but if I have any chance in luring her away to vintage steel it would probably be with a Viscount as she's quite taken with anything British. She took great interest in my recent Covid DFR 8 effort.
As far as mixtes are concerned, most are not well-designed with a smaller woman in mind, frame geometry being too stretched out in the virtual top tube length. I have tried to fit her to several, including a most beautiful Austro Daimler that passed through my hands some years back, but to no avail.
I could probably get away with a 48cm and do some modifications such as 700c or 650b wheels as she's right on that borderline. I'm pretty sure I saw a 48cm Lambert (lugged frame) Super Sport on US eBay earlier this year, but I'm unable to pull it up as a sold listing. I'm sure those must be quite rare. I was just wondering if perhaps anything else was ever made, even a youth model with 24in wheels?
Guess it's time to pull out the brazing torch and resurrect my frame building skills. Modify an existing Viscount Aerospace frame? Oh, the horrors!!

John, I might have what you're looking for: P1000531 by RMT@261, on Flickr The frame measures 19" along the seat post from the centre of the b/b shell to the top tube junction (for scale, the floor tiles are 16"x16"). Both the frame and forks are finished in grey (phosphate?) primer. I bought the frame and forks, as pictured, together with a complete box of cleaned components a few years back, imagining that I'd use them to build a Viscount for my wife. As it turned out (see other threads), she's OK with a 21" frame. If the frame and forks are what you believe you're looking for, I can provide more detailed dimensions and photos. They are with me here in Solihull, England, so getting them to Pennsylvania might be an issue.

Rob,
That's an excellent looking frameset and would likely work well for me and she. As you say, getting it to Pennsylvania USA might be a chore, especially under the COVID circumstances. I belong to several other forums and hear that international shipping is a huge problem. Timewise, it is not an issue since this would be a winter project.
I don't know your intentions as far as moving this frame along, but I would certainly like to hear from you before you let it go. Also, if you have a price in mind, I'd really be interested in that as well. If you want to contact me off list, I'm wheelson2011 AT gmail DOT CoM and dimensions and additional photos would certainly be appreciated.

The Viking link by the newby was what I was concerned about. I have this aversion to clicking on unfamiliar ones. Brian, thanks again for facilitating that small Lambert acquisition. I haven't done much work on it yet, it will still be borderline for Mrs.W. It will most likely be built with 700C or 650B wheels, a 165mm or shorter crankset, and a replacement fork. Looking ahead to DFR9, virtual or come what may. Best, John "wheelson"

I could have left it for fun, but generally 'mop up' rogue and spam posts within a day or 2.
