I’m picking up another bike today and the saddle says ‘viscount’ on it. I wanted it because of the Bristol connection, but could it be a Viscount, branded with the shop’s name? Any ideas? I’d never heard of Viscount bikes 3 weeks ago and I may shortly have 2 of them! I've put some pics on the Viscount Facebook page if you're interested: www.facebook.com/groups/1824716324510011

I am not qualified to answer this question but that won't stop me. I have seen a number of Viscount saddles of various styles that would definitely not have come with a Viscount 10-speed, and some that appear older than the Viscount brand. So I would say no, the Viscount saddle does not mean it is a Viscount bike.

Hi Andy - I just happened to see your post on the Facebook group.
I think the answer given there is very likely the case. Middlemores made that saddle with the Viscount branding on the back.
These are not to be confused with the ubiquitous 'Viscount saddles' that are a different company.
I think your shed size might be the only thing that can halt your collection now! haha. They are relatively cheap and are a great bike.

Looks a nice find and quite unique with its decals. Look forward to seeing how it turns out

Hi Andy, like you, I hadn't heard of Viscount bikes until one turned up locally for sale just as we were looking for something suitable for my wife to ride. I've been browsing this forum and the long thread on the CTC forum since we picked the bike up a couple of weeks ago. One thing I've picked up that I think would suggest that yours is not a Viscount is the Reynolds 531 sticker. There are definitely experts here who can confirm, but I don't think Viscount used 531 tube. Of course, it's only a sticker, so there may be other clues that I'm not yet qualified to recognise.
It still looks like a nice bike.

I have no idea if your bike is a Viscount. Some of the later ones had a lugged frame, and one model was both lugged and equipped with the Shimano 600 group. The saddle is most definitely from a Viscount, and if you look closely at the branding on the saddle you'll see Trusty's name there. I have one of those on my Viscount but I purchased it on eBay so I'm not sure what model it came on. I'm also not sure if this Viscount saddle was made by the same company that made the many, many bmx saddles by that name when you do an online search. Best, John "wheelson" Wilson

Thank you everyone for the feedback.
I don't know why but I am a bit disappointed that it (probably) isn't a Viscount frame - I'd never heard of Viscount until 3 weeks ago!
Anyway, hopefully when it's finished it will look lovely and it will still have a Viscount-related seat.
