Hey Folks,
I realize this is probably a longshot of a request, but I am looking for a Lambert Grand Prix.
I was the original owner of an LGP in '73 and probably put a few thousand miles on it before it was stolen in '77. Never heard of the death fork until recently.
Anyway, I must be going through a late midlife crisis, as I am now looking to get another one. I just came across your site this evening and I'm hoping you can help.
Would love to hear from you, regardless of location. Keeping my fingers crossed.
Best,

I don't know where you are located, or what size you need. I did see this one on eBay
and this one
and these on Craig's List in SoCal area.
Welcome to the Forum and good luck in your search.

Welcome on board! You specifically ask about Lamberts and in 1973 that is what there was - Viscount started in 1974 (about) after the original Lambert enterprise folded. The earliest Lambert bikes had lugged frames. There are photos of examples on Classic Rendezvous. Later in the Lambert era fillet brazed frames were produced, identical to those found on the Viscount Aerospace bikes up to about 1979. Some pictures of my Lambert of this type: flic.kr/s/aHsjoAZGLWLamberts came with a range of unique parts - cartridge bearing hubs, aluminium ("death") forks, one-piece cast alloy pedals with needle bearings, shifters, special bars with gold coloured sleeve, front derailleur, stem and seat post, saddle, 'porthole' chain set, even gear block and (for a very short time) a Lambert rear derailleur. The fillet brazed Lamberts introduced cartridge bearings for the bottom bracket. The RD was SunTour or Simplex. Early Viscounts continued to have most of these innovative components. Both types of Lambert are quite rare but do appear from time to time on eBay, Craig's List &c. The good news is that the prices do not always reflect their rarity. Good luck with finding the Lambert you want.

I'm seeing reference to a Lambert Super Sport...can anyone help me understand how that model compares with the Grand Prix?
Thanks,

Hey Rockpile - welcome to the forum. It's not the easiest site to navigate but I am sure that if you are going to get the info you need to find a 'replacement ' of the same model then you'll find it here (eventually) Is your name an indicator of your love for the Dave Edmunds/Nick Lowe outfit or something else? Where are you located?

Hi there, I found a Lambert on E Bay a couple of years ago and bought for £11.50, it was a mess with a capital M, so bad in fact that my wife saw it as I loaded into the car and asked if I had been paid to remove it from the old owner as no idiot would pay for that pile of ............! She wasn’t unkind there either as it was on the edge of even me using it for a donner bike but I percivered and now am the owner of a very original and immaculhttps://flic.kr/p/HSVntfate GP. These old things do come up now and again, mine was repainted at Bob Jackson’s and they had an identical frame in at the same time but they are still quite rare. If restoring one they are different, the sealed BB is the biggest pain to remover and replace but it got done so not impossible to remove even after all those years. Parts are impossible to find so you have to be creative, I made a part for the front derailure from a Simplex one to get it working, that’s part of restoration for me. My suggestion is to just keep looking in the usual places. There is also a FB group so maybe post in there as well as I think a few members have Lamberts and you never know if someone will sell. BTW mine has MK1 “Death” forks on and they are fine, it does not get ridden hard or fast in fairness as you just never know but they are still on the bike all polished up and look superb........if they survived since the early 70’s then it suggests they could live a bit longer although I can hear the arguments on metal fatigue 😁 flic.kr/p/HSVntf

All -
Thanks for the suggestions...I'm still looking. I should mention that the Lambert I purchased in '73 was a gold plated version...had it for several years...heartbroken when it was stolen in '78.
I only became aware of the death fork a couple of years ago...had no idea when I was riding it...and I rode it hard and fast...had to go over railroad crossings every day...guess I dodged a bullet there.
While I am a fan of the band, my handle, rockpile, comes from my last name which is Cairns...I'll let you work out the rest.
If you come across a find that you don't want to purchase, please don't hesitate to let me know.
Best,
PC

I have a search function enabled on eBay and was notified of a gold plated Lambert Professional Grand Prix up for auction. The frame was pristine and the bicycle had most of the Lambert parts on it, including the suede saddle. It seemed to have Weinmann brakes and a strange Lambert skewer holding the stem together but other than that, the bike showed well. The seller claimed that it had never been ridden outdoors. The bike was up for auction starting at around $18 US with a Buy It Now price of $2,600. Curiously, I checked on eBay this morning and the listing was pulled and I don't think that the bike had been sold. Perhaps this was a scam and eBay yanked all the listings associated with this seller. However, the photos looked very real and if this gets untangled, maybe the Lambert will re-appear in the future. Lastly, I just restored a gold plated Lambert that I intend to sell. It has all original parts and was lightly ridden. Immediate plans are to display it at the Eroica California Concourse in April and then enshrine it at the US Bicycling Hall of Fame in Davis, CA afterwards. I'm open to selling it so if you are interested, please email me at Brian.Gegan.com@gmail.com if you want to discuss it further. Best regards, Brian

Best regards, Brian Thanks for pointing it out Brian and thanks for mentioning your offer to sell too. If you want me to display any photos on here then just PM me and I can host them and post them up (the forum is presently 'full' and can't host it's own pictures. Here's what might have happened with the eBay sale of the pristine gold plated Viscount...the seller might have received so many messages and offers and conflicting information on it's value that he just freaked out and pulled it so that he could sell it in his own time. Or maybe someone came in with a big offer ? Jem

Hi Jem, Thanks for the offer to host photos - good to know. I'm going to collect the info on my bike and post the specs on that big Google spreadsheet but may need your help in the future. Regarding the brief listing of the Lambert on eBay, hopefully we'll see it again. I don't think that it has been sold because I searched on "sold" Lamberts and it isn't listed. Add another mystery to the Lambert legend! Best regards, Brian
