Twi things...
Which white one, the mixte?
And who/where valued the second one do you think? (not from here as I put between £30 and £90 when I had a stab at prices)

It was sold and then re-listed. My guess is someone wanted to arrange for a courier.

Yeah, that'll be me that owns that one. Completely jammy find i'm certainly not a collector. I was looking for a frameset for my fixie project. Thanks to the information and enthusiasm from you guys I'm not sure that's the best plan.

I'm only trying to carry out my first ever build on it and am so fascinated by the Aerospace story that I am having reservations on converting it to a singlespeed. I have already begun by stripping the ancillaries for painting, but again, I can't decide whether or not to restore. I think its the Pro, so maybe the right shade of silver and black?

Welcome Koof.
That looks nice. What frame size is it?
The silver/black Pro would have had the clinchers. The silver/blue was with tubs.
There's not too much to do on it is there? I'd personally go for a restore, but I bet you'd guess I'd go for that option eh?
You live in the Midlands?

Thanks amd hello all. I see the reasons for the fond interest in them, for me, its old vw's. And out of respect for that I am considering the restoration option. I doubt I'll acheive much without help. Im in London but enjoyed the chance to take the car for a cruise. The frame measures 22" on the seat tube, i've no wheels, seatpost, nor rear derailleur for it yet. I bet they were sold separately. That said, I reckon if I can find parts a restoration is easier than figuring out the correct chainline on a random wheel and sprocket combination. If I may, I have got to ask you all. 1. What features define which model aerospace I have here. Circle designed chainwheel any help? Simplex plastic bodied front derailleur? I reckon what looks like the 2nd generation alloy fork. (single pin from the side)? 2. Where is the frame number? I take it theres no register. 3. After I strip her down I like to know if there is a perfect paint match available. Once I decide which model it is of course. 4. I'll need an expert to decide whether; a) the cranks are fit for use, b) and as my spindle got shagged when a LBS removed it. Which is best replacement spindle?
That last one could be the decider of convert/restore question on fiscal grounds.
Either way I can thank you all for being so interesting.
Koof.

Koof, I'm the owner of a VW T25 conversion from '83 and it's more about love than logic. So I know exactly where you're coming from. I am far from being knowledgeable enough to give any definitive answers to your questions but I will have a rough go for starters and others will no doubt have more detail. Maybe start with a look here (halfway down page) www.flickr.com/photos/21098570@N05/I would say you might be on the right lines looking for Shimano Crane rd and Titlist fd. Frame numbers....abandon all ideas of this being any help. Not being defeatist, just that we have had ex-employees who had no idea either and no system that has yet to be 'cracked'. Is it under bb on yours? In terms of chainline etc - the Guru Bustaste wrote this post that might help forum.ctc.org.uk/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=21010&start=1005)Hope this is at least a start?

Morning, everyone and welcome, Koof. So you're the little culprit who snagged up the frame. I'm really glad to read you're considering a restoration as you'll feel so damn proud once you're riding around on the bike and people will oh and ah when you tell them it's all original parts from the 70s. As so your questions: colour-scheme, once confirmed with perhaps Busaste, shouldn't be a problem, Armourtex www.armourtexcycles.co.uk/ has a wide range of colours. It costs about 70 quid to get the frame powder coated. I personally like the red/white, but have a Pro frame with Black/silver which I'm restoring. I'd agree that you can't go wrong with a crane/titlist combination. Porthole chain set or SR Apex. Shame about the BB, but Busaste said they can be made to order by a good engineering shop, if I remember correctly and not too expensive either. It's hard to get your hands on those as they don't produce them anymore. Stem I think should be SR, too, all alloy components. Pedals: I could take a look at them, if you want to; I'm in Finsbury Park. Brakes: either Viscount/Lambert branded, but Weinmann centre pulls will be all right. Wheels: 27 1 1/4 alloy rims with either Viscount or Lambert hubs (probably Vintage bike cave). If you want I can build them for you. There are cheaper options available from Raleigh but, in my opinion, those wheels don't belong onto a restoration project. Anyway, I just wanted to offer you help if you need it. If you source the new spindle, I'll (hopefully soon) have a tool to press the BB in without causing any damage. Anyway, just wanted to say welcome. :-) Stella
