Good evening Chaps.
I've been chatting with biggs682 about his latest acquisition and have been comparing the frames.
There seem to be some major differences , 'Biscuit' seems to be correct to the specification sheet that John posted but biggs has the half chrome fork and can only accommodate 27" wheels .
Mine has a cutout on the bb shell and no mudguard mounts .
Does anyone know why there seem to be two versions of the 600 ?
How may 600 are there on this forum that we could compare ?
does anyone else have the fork crown motive on any Viscount/Lambert that I have ?

Mine is of the biggs type - 27" wheels, plain sloping shoulders to the front forks, half chrome and mudguard (fender) eyes. flic.kr/p/H9v16n(Ready for hill-climbing with a big cog, small chain ring and long-cage RD.)

I like the Viscount lettering on the top of the seat stays and the half chrome forks on your frames . Do any other Viscount frames have the bb cutout ?

No bb cut-outs on any of my Viscounts. Perhaps Biscuit is a low-calorie bike?

Viscount had all sorts of problems with parts supply which made it very difficult to maintain a model's brochure specification. Things improved a bit after the move to Potter's Bar but it was never easy. The fact that Viscount bikes were sold too cheap didn't help either. It made deal brokering with part suppliers hard work.
So, you get lots of variations within the various models. Only the early VA Pro's, GP's and Sports remained fairly predictable.
I've seen other Potter's Bar bikes with cut out BBs.
Raleigh were difficult with Lambert and Viscount - no Reynolds tubing allowed and pressure on frame lug makers to avoid selling to Lambert/Viscount.

Viscount Discovery Ian HallamHi Fellas, been to Notts today to get some tubs for my Viscount Pro Build and discovered what seems to be Ian Hallams 1982 Viscount Dura Ace bike hung up in a shed, see pictures Owner says he has provenance for this, Is this the bike we say we have not seen one, looks like a 600EX but with prugnat lugs and all the trimmings; Owner is enquiring what is it worth? Bidding must be up there with the most paid, any thoughts Best regards Richard

Is he selling that? I'd only need to lose 3 or 4 stones, as underneath all this I have a very slim, trim frame.

I can't see enough on the photos to really know what I am looking at. Was it DA components?
So is he saying it was his race bike?
We need Bustaste to drop by...if anyone knows, it will be him

Yep DA parts, looked like 7200 series with a crank to take those massive threaded pedals, from rear looked like first gen dura ace rear mech
I will ask Owner to take close ups for our site Guru to deliver the prognosis !!
I have added more pictures into my first link.

I'm looking to find the differences with this one of mine...(on the frame anyway), mine has 600 components. It looks like the Hallam bike shares the 600 headset with mine? I really like the paint scheme. A nod to the retail Pro's that came before? Untitled by Sooper 8, on Flickr

Here are some flyers for the 1982 Viscount model range: 600ex, 600ax and Deore-18ax. Plus a picture of a Viscount track frame and Tony Doyle, Tony James & Ian Hallam in action. These pictures and blurb from a 1981 promotional leaflet include a 'team Viscount' that is Dura Ace equipped and can be had in Columbus tubing - so perhaps the one hanging in the shop is one of these. That doesn't mean that it wasn't ridden by Ian Hallam - Viscount were known to race bikes with frames off the production line. Unlike many pro teams before and since. page_2 by Cusqueno, on Flickr

Looking at the shop photos on my laptop rather than my 'phone, I can see that the bike has Dura Ace ax crank & pedals, but DA 2nd gen brakes (not ax brakes) and rear derailleur. Other bits are probably standard DA, as far as I can see. What are the hubs? Low flange DA?
I feel a new project coming on, although some of the parts come rather expensive. All I need to get started is a Columbus frame ...

It should be ridden, perhaps to the next Death Fork Rally, where you can show it in all it's glory? Are any photos available?

Hi Guys, enjoying this thread. I have a 600ex in pinkish silver with the logos on the tops of the fork and the cutout in the BB. I also built and sold on a Linden green model with Viscount written into the seat stays and the half chrome fork with tange dropouts.
If I didn't already know I would not have thought they were the same model!

Good people, I was given a green Viscount Aerospace 600 frame and forks. Most of the frame stickers are illegible but having seen the above it must be an EX. No cutouts in the bottom bracket area but fully chromed forks. Anyway I have a question I hope someone can answer - What is the diameter of the seat post please? I think 26.4 but it could be 26.8 according to my vernier gauge. I don't have access to either size but would like to get one purchased.

I'm almost certain my 600ex has a 26.8mm seat post. Most if not all of the high-end Viscounts have that size, because they are made from cro-moly tube that comes in the thickness to give that inside diameter. But try before you buy if possible.

This is what I've got and I don't know what to do with it*. I'm sure it is a 600EX but I have zero experience of the model. I started adding parts-bin parts to it and was going to with Shimano brake/shifters. Then I found that the downtube shifter bosses have a little tab that would prevent the new cable stops being mounted without either grinding the frame or the cable stops. I delved deeper into the bin and found the Shimano 600 shifters but one of the grey plastic C parts that sits between the shifter and the tube was snapped in half. Glued it together and fitted them but I'm not happy as it won't last. So I was going to use these wheels, 700C, and swap the 10 speed cassette for an 8 speed but I think I only have Weinmann brakes that have enough drop. So my quandary is do I get 630mm wheels or leave the 622mm fitted and fit it out with Shimano 600 (or 105) parts or do I sell the frame and have an easy life? *You will see that when I commenced this post I was expecting to add pics but I can't. I don't have flickr - no pics. Sorry. Went another way and got ebay to host them temporarily!!!

What did you decide on this Polsa1? Did you stick with it?
By the way, a clever work around to use the ebay hosted pics

What did you decide on this Polsa1? Did you stick with it? By the way, a clever work around to use the ebay hosted pics I was really chuffed I thought of that ebay wheeze. I'm trying to downsize but keep getting Raleigh Twentys and Dawes Kingpins looking for a home, 3 of each in this month. This week I've bought a Dawes Streak, Vindec shopper (Twenty) and a Van Hoeyen (Hoeijen) racing/touring bike. I don't know why I do it though, in my defence, I was looking for a decent pair of 630mm wheels as it became apparent that the 700c wheels I used as Viscount place holders were a little small. My frame is obviously for the larger wheels. I'm sure one of the two big bikes I bought has bigger wheels and though I haven't collected it yet I feel that it is too good to split. So after a bit of soul searching I think I'll sell the Viscount as I won't do it justice as I don't have the time to scour ebay etc for Shimano 600 bits and bobs. It'll go on ebay this weekend I expect. What's the consensus on a reasonable starting price or a fair end value?
