I've just noticed that this Viscount is a V-3000 GS Quite a rare model, as we have discovered. A lugged frame and clearly only mid-range, but a very clean bike in good condition. Reasonable components. Shipped shop packed. By the Packers no doubt, which might explain the $325 price tag.

Detel Bikes! From Green Bay. Get this, these bikes have caught my interest, some of them are 531 Reynolds, they only ever made 3 models and were a business for a very short time. They were made in Green Bay, Green Bay Wisconsin. minneapolis.craigslist.org/hnp/bik/5754123753.html Detel; I'm surprised someone doesn't grab these. "this is an extremely rare bicycle only made for 7 months in 1985 in Green Bay Wisconsin( the company failed and went out of business within 7 months) from what I've read there was three models one was a marathon and then the legend 6000 and also legend 4000 they went out of business approx 7 months after they went into production because their investors backed out from what I have read there is very little information on these bikes this bike has been fairly well taken care of paint is not perfect but definitely looks good the pictures are very good representation of the bike they were taken at about the time of the posting" ---------------------------------- Could be too small for me; perhaps worth considering, could be quality. There are very few around, a really unique brand. And where it says the company went out of business above, I read more on these "Detel" bikes, some who were promising making an investment backed out of it, that history is around if one wishes to read about it. I saw another "Detel" not too long ago. I think the head tube makes it look a bit small for me by estimation. If I didn't have a number of other bikes, perhaps I'd bite.

Detel is a new one to me but will go on to my list of bikes to keep an eye out for EDIT- just read up on Detel bikes. One thing is for certain, they are pretty easy to date...not just the year either, you've only got about 6 or 7 months to choose from in 1985! I don't think I will find one in the UK though

Ishiwata NOT Reynolds: Only two models were made, the higher-end Marathon (Ishiwata 022) and the more standard Legend (Ishiwata 024). There was also a numeric designation (either 6000 or 4000) added to the model name to indicate the grade of the componentry. bikeratleader.blogspot.com/2008/11/detel-bikes.htmlTo us over here though, we don't have a lot of independent bike makers, they do exist definitely but it must have been a real industry in the UK. And Italy and France. ------------------- For the record, TREK is from Wisconsin too (I don't know all the details); those are highly heralded bikes; and there's many Treks around in the US. vintage-trek.com/index.htmVintage Treks.
