That's a nice bike. I wonder if I could persuade Mrs C that she should consider replacing her trusty old (not actually as old as this though) Raleigh Pioneer? The Raleigh is immensely heavy, but I'd have to put straight bars on the CW and indexed gears and a basket. £125 not totally over the top in my opinion, although obviously one would like it for less. Nice first gen Deore crankset (double) but only an Altus RD. Is it only five speed?

John, If you decide that it would be the perfect Christmas present for Mrs C, I'll happily pick it up and bring it down on the train to London on one of my work trips or to DFR4.5. (Even though the quoted £3.30 postage looks like a bargain!)

I'm guessing they meant £33 delivery? My approach would be to make contact and offer below £100 and then work up from there. The reason for this is not purely being mean with money, but the mixte version of most bikes just doesn't seem to ever fetch the price of a comparable top bar model. My Corsair was about £65-£75, and then the following month a really great condition original Corsair went for about £125 (and the seller had offered it to me for £100 at the very start of the listing), therefore I do think it could be on there for quite a while at that price. Hence, room for negotiation?

Having just spent £130 on not much more than a week's groceries. Hope you had a great time in Herts today.

John - I'd be tempted to message seller and offer £70 and see what happens? You can't go far wrong at that?

I've paid the £95. Now just have to explain to Mrs C the acquisition of another bike. Perhaps she'll like it.

John,
Sorry to have missed you today, but Scott and I agreed you were on a long shot. Though the Garden Centre cafe was perfect for our needs today, it probably wouldn't quite justify a 2 hour round trip in the car for a meal to mark a special occasion.
I'm next in London this coming Friday, 7th October. If you can strike a bargain by Thursday afternoon, I could collect it on Thursday evening and bring it down in time for you to carry out some fettling next weekend. If not, I'm in London about once a fortnight, so plenty of chances before Christmas.
A warning though - Mrs RobT has yet to put her leg across the blue Sebring Mixte I so generously bought for her in July. Something about not being keen on drop handlebars, so we might both be looking at straight bar and indexed gear conversions in the coming weeks.
Good luck!

Very lovely bike, rack and forged dropouts.
, it has the Shimano 600 pedals(?); I have some of those. I've never used them and I'm showing what a novice I am, those do require cleats, do they not?

They are fine without if you have the toe clips & strap , but I think they took that very early sort of cleat ( I don't know name & have never been a user) which then allowed use without toe clip & strap. But I could be wrong.

But I could be wrong. I use 600ax pedals on my Viscount 600ax, with toe clips & straps. Never thought that they might also be clip-less. I'll have to have a close look. I also use the later (standard 9/16" thread) version, again with toe clips and straps. I have put Deore 1" pedals on my existing (man's) Corsair Wayfarer and I think I have another pair to go on this bike. They seem to be designed mainly as platform pedals, but toe clips and straps can be added. To complete the line up of weird Shimano pedals I have some Adamas AX pedals. These are 9/16" platforms, looking a bit like the Deore ones, weighted so that they always hang the right way up. So not for weight weenies.

Rob handed the bike over to me at Euston Station this morning - many thanks to Rob for collecting it and bringing it down and for checking it over first so that I could just hop on it and ride away.
It is a nice bike and seems to go quite quickly. I'll check for a serial number later. It must be after 1980 as the rear hub has a 1980 Shimano date code stamped on it (EI I think). Showa rack, first gen Deore crank set, good Mavic rims, Altus derailleurs and shifter. Tourney CP brakes and 600ax pedals (the dyna drive ones with 1" threads).
