I just did some background research on the Phoenix tubing used by Viscount, and discovered that Phoenix Tubing Co Ltd., is now part of Liberty Drawn Tubes, who, according to their website are UK's only manufacturer of precision cold drawn seamless (CDS) and cold drawn welded tube.
What is a "cold drawn welded tube"? That seems to me to be an oxymoron.
Which would lead me to think that either these folks have not done their research or Reynolds has moved all tubing manufacturing out of the UK. What? The Reynolds website seems to indicate that they make 953, etc., seamless, cold drawn tubing in the UK. So which is it? Does anyone know?
I'm confused.
When I win the lottery, perhaps I'll move across the pond, start a bicycle manufacturing company, and use Phoenix tubing. hmmm.

54roadie-
Cold drawn welded tube is formed from sheet, welded into a tube and then cold drawn over a mandrel to eliminate the seam and enhance the tube strength. Columbus Cromor, Reynolds 501 and various True Temper tubes were made this way. Reynolds has moved some tubing production out of the UK. I believe 520 is just "Reynolds approved" and is off shore production in Taiwan.
