I am quite into this recent craze for Info-graphics or Data-visulaisation charts (or in simple terms, pictures and facts together that look nicer than a spread sheet)
E.g here www.theguardian.com/digital-agency/page/speed-comparison-chart
I have often thought that a visual 'family tree' of the Trusty/Lambert/Viscount marque with all the models would be a wonderful thing.
Unfortunately, I don't have the knowledge to even really begin on it. And even the things that I have picked up here, on CTC and that Bustaste has told me just won't stick in my ageing memory for long, so I worry I would be a woefully poor source of information anyway. I guess it would be what most guest users come here for ? (to ID a bike and know a bit about it's history?)
But, I am keen to do it and would be happy to collate it all in a sort of 'info-graphic' form if anyone is interested and would chip in?
I was thinking that it would contain some kind of time line showing rough production dates; then the production plants, the models, if they produced a mixte, general idea of components (I know that might be a difficult task, but it could be a continual work in progress?)
It could be grouped into general or specific areas (Aerospace frame for instance) and chart the inter-relations of the models? For example , until Foss posted up the pictures of his 600, I wasn't aware that it shared the same lugs patterns and exact same brazed on cable holders on top bar as my deore 18AX. This could be presented by a line or link between the models?(a bit like a simplified underground tube map?)
I also think that these elusive models such as the Pursuit , the Omnium and the Ace that no one here seems to own, could at least be mapped.
I have no idea how many models were produced over the 10 years or so...
Also, notes could be added to each model giving details on colour (I am thinking of the very important details that Cusqueno gave regarding the 600 just this morning), frame sizes it was produced in, and quirks or specifics about components etc), price when new, weight of bike, and so on.
My son tells me that even if it were a very large graphic, it could be done on Illustrator or Photoshop type programs and it wouldn't be an issue about how wide or tall it was- you could have the overview and then zoom into the boxes to read further detail. Maybe a thumbnail pic that links to a decent quality picture for reference and identification purposes?
Let me know your thoughts, feel free to throw in some ideas about how to structure it, and maybe the way to go is post up whatever info you might be able to offer or message me and then we can get a broad picture, then knock it about and get a shape? I may be a little naive thinking this is possible, but what the heck!
I guess it's one of those jigsaw projects that are difficult to kick off but all of us may have little bits of info to add once we have a basic framework?
EDIT- Literally read my own post 2 mins after putting it up and realised it's a kind of wikipeadia of Viscount with more pictures ....
