Thanks, Jem! I've also posted this pic on the 'milestone reached' thread, but I'm so chuffed, I'll post it here as well. My 1976 Sebring reborn just in time for tomorrow's Eroica ride: IMG_4472 by RMT@261, on Flickr

Excellent rebuild Robt! It can only help "upgrade" the Viscount image at Eroic!

54.17 miles up hill and down dale (but it mostly seemed uphill). Thanks to Spa Cycles for selling me the bits that allowed me to add a 3rd, 34 tooth, chainring to the Viscount standard 52/42 porthole chainset. Together with my skip tooth 34T sprocket, the 34front/34rear combination has been my best friend today! The re-built Sebring performed OK but I need to check the rear derailleur hanger alignment, as sprocket selection was a bit hit and miss, particularly when swapping chainrings as the gradients changed from down to back up again. Dropped the chain 3 or 4 times on the approaches to the hills, losing all momentum and quite a bit of the paint from the chainstay. The Suntour Cyclone front mech worked really nicely with the Dia Compe/Rivendell micro ratchet shift levers. My home-built wheels seem to have stayed circular, which was a blessing. The Jura merino/poly shorts were comfortable and have put a lovely shine on the copper rivets on my saddle. Just got caught in some light rain over the last 5 miles from Chatsworth House. The bike remained quite clean until the Finish line, from where they marshalled us all back in through the mud-soaked straw of the festival ground. Sorry - no photos. The downside of a solo effort. It was great to bump into Scott and his father and brothers - I hope it went well for you all. Sprockit - if you were there, I'm sorry I didn't catch up with you.

I arrived on Friday evening, but had to return home soon after, then one thing led to another to another etc, so then missed the rest of the event.
Bloody gutted.

Rob,
What a great image number for a railway man!
. . . and the bike looks stunning as well - so two superb '4472' restorations in one year!

I still have some shifting problems. It just seems to be one of those things. That's a number of times for the chain to fall off but I can relate.

I couldn't claim to be much like a 'Flying Scotsman' today, more of a 'Wheezing Englishman'! I hope you're able to have a more settled DFR4 weekend in Warwick on 8-10 July. I'm looking forward to the 'Sparrowfart' canalside ride early on Sunday morning.

Up hill and down dale, and it does seem a lot of uphill riding, but the descents are glorious - down into Hartington round those sweeping bends on the lovely smooth tarmac, the tricky inclined plane of the Cromford and High Peak Railway, and the last steep drop to the Bakewell Showground, with some short, some sharp, and some downright steep climbs in between. Also, don't forget the mobilisation of the local population to feed and water some 4000+ riders, as they battle their steeds through the beautiful rolling hills of Derbyshire. Well done Rob, and regulars Scott and rmw. Enjoy and savour the bottle of beer at the finish 'cos you fully deserve it.

That bike is quite well done. Steel bikes are just 1) prettier, and 2) more fun to ride. ON top of that you have your bike just sparkling, Rob, it a real eye catcher.
Congratulations to you and to all who rode their Trusty Viscounts in the Eroica. Wonderful accomplishment; I hope it was fun as well as demanding.
