Just started to look at the 600ex to get it on the road.
First thing is the tyres. They are 27x7/8 . It says on them. So looking around, these really don't exist any more.
Without actually trying sets in there, I presume there is plenty of clearance for an 1"1/4 tyre? But will the rims be ok with that as they look super narrow (Campag)
EDIT- for info the originals on that would have been 700c, so these were not original to the bike

27x7/8 are indeed rare. They can occasionally be found on eBay but are pricey. 27 x 1 are a nice replacement and much easier to find.
Good Luck Jim

Jem, Have you considered these 27x1" Paselas @£29.99 on Ebay? I'm not sure whether there is more than one available, or just multiple adverts for the same tyre. ETRO quoted is 25-630. SJS Cycles always have a good selection of 27" tyres to suit all pockets. All of SJS's are 27x1.25 (32-630) except the Conti SuperSport 27x1.125 (28-630), which are all black. I have a pair on my Victor, they look quite narrow compared to the 27x1.25s, roll very smoothly and seem to grip OK. If you must have Gumwall, then Panaracer Paselas ( TG or PT), Michelin World Tours, " Raleigh" at SJS or there is a Schwalbe Gumwall 32-630 available through Amazon or Baldwins on EBay @£30 for a pair & tubes. I have a pair of 32-630 Pasela PTs on the Gold Gran Sport you introduced me to. They are very nice and worth their reputation IMHO. For 23-630/27"x1" Paselas, you might need to look at importing from the USA. Jim's Bike Direct site adds $36.65 for shipping to GB to give $86.63 per pair (=£60.93), but don't forget you might also be hit for import duties before Royal Mail will deliver. Good hunting, Rob.

With a MSRP of $29.99 in the US, and they are selling for £29.99 in the UK? It seems my English cousins are being ripped off somewhere; taxes I suppose.

I've been buying my Panaracers online from Fawkes Cycles who carry them in a range of sizes.

Jem, I have located some NOS 27"x¾" tyres if you are still looking for something really skinny for your 600EX. £14.99 per pair!

I bought a pair of these some time ago and came across one when manoeuvring the golden Lambert out of the shed. Your post inspired me to fit one to a rim and put it on one of my commuting bikes. Seems good, but 20mm tyres do need a narrow rim. And pushing it on left my thumbs and wrists aching.

Seems good, but 20mm tyres do need a narrow rim. And pushing it on left my thumbs and wrists aching. Had a spare few mins today so thought I'd give them a go. Man alive, they are hard work to get on. I think partly due to the fact that the pair I picked up have zero flex in them as they are new old stock from somewhere back from the last century. I struggled for 30 mins with 1 and finally got it on, only to find I must have put a pinch puncture in tube due to my aggressive force with a hard plastic tyre lever (I guess) - so off it came and new tube in and I continued on for 10 mins before having to get on with other none bike bike related jobs that needed doing. So an hour later and the result was tube that needs fixing, neither tyre on and a very sore pairs of thumbs and a strain in my wrist.

Feedback on these tyres that Rob kindly pointed me to www.bankruptbikeparts.co.uk/index.php?route=product/product&path=596&product_id=17320They are cheap alright but they nearly cost me the use of my thumbs and wrists for a week. They are now cracking quite badly with less than 100 miles on them. I think the nature of NOS just sitting somewhere for years is fine for metal components , just not tyres. They are perishing. So, maybe I got a bad pair , but I wouldn't recommend them.
