cover star: VictorA gorgeous late summer day in Melbourne (finally the mercury has dropped below 40º C) and I've stopped to take a pic of my lovely new tyres before they get grimey. If your Aerospace is still running 27" wheels (as it should) there is only one choice to my mind, and that is the Panaracer Pasela range. The tyre in the pic is definitely the top of that range, the folding Pasela with Tourguard (Kevlar) puncture protection. Why? Because no other company makes a tyre as good, in so many widths, in gumwall. And no-one else makes a folding 27" tyre. They are the lightest, most supple, beaded tyre available in 27". End of story. The one above is the 27 x 1 & 1/8 inch version (ISO 28-630). This, I reckon, is the optimal width for general use. I find the more common 27 x 1 & 1/4 tyre leaves only 1 or 2mm clearance between the Aerospace frame's chainstays. If you run full mudguards as I do I doubt the 1 & 1/4 tyre would fit at all. Nevertheless Panaracer make their 27" Paselas in 1", 1 & 1/8" and 1 & 1/4" widths. They make them in gumwall and black, with or without Kevlar and both folding and wire-bead versions. Panaracer also make the very best touring tyres in 650B (IS0 584), these and these. b

AH the old World Tours! I haven't seen them around this neck of the woods for ages. The most common gumwall 27" tyre here is the Thai-made Duro brand. You've never found it a bit squeezy between the chainstays running 1 1/4 tyres? Everything around here is tinder-dry, as you can see form the top photo. Which means dickhead arsonists are having a field day. Burnt out big stretches of bush a bit further along from where this photo was taken. And now someone's set the mine for the state's coal-fired power station alight! That hole is going to burn for years. Check this out, it's biblical! The pic at least should keep you guys warm! b
