Raleigh Grand Prixs are one of the most prolific bicycles of the bike boom. I believe from what I can tell, some Raleighs had different names in the UK compared to the USA. I had a Grand Prix, I think it was a bit too small. Then, I fixed a friend's of mine Grand Prix, had it for a few days and enjoyed riding it around, in fact, despite it being that heavy carbon steel, I thought it rode like a dream. The one I had must have been too small, the size made all of the difference in the world. They are carbon steel, so on the heavy side. I'd like to one day own another one. There literally seemed to be gazillions of them sold. Most common was blue but they also came in green, red and white. Curiously, I saw on ebay.co.uk, a Raleigh Olympus. I doubt if it was available in the states but it had a simlar kind of paint job as a Grand Prix, the one on ebay was blue. We don't see these over here. 26" wheels. I really like the Raleighs and their lore; as I've said before though, the big company ended up swallowing a lot of other companies, some prestigious like Carlton and Phillips. I read a whole book on the history of Raleigh. I saw in one forum, one person posted pictures of their grand prix, the late '70s model, so a different paint scheme but he had it all loaded up as a tourer, at least the back and maybe the front. It looked pretty good too.
